CICS Systems Programmer

Immediate need for a talented CICS Systems Programmer. This is a 12 months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid). Please review the job description below and contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support IBM CICS Transaction Server environments on z/OS.
  • Perform CICS system programming activities including upgrades, patches, maintenance, and migrations.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity planning for CICS regions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex CICS, z/OS, VTAM, TCP/IP, and middleware-related issues.
  • Support high-availability and disaster recovery initiatives for mainframe systems.
  • Configure and maintain CICS resources including transactions, programs, files, queues, journals, and security definitions.
  • Work closely with application development, infrastructure, storage, DB2, MQ, and operations teams.
  • Implement automation and operational improvements using REXX, JCL, and scripting tools.
  • Participate in production support, incident management, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and change management processes.
  • Support performance tuning and optimization of CICS workloads.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and recovery plans.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

  • 6 years of experience in Mainframe Systems Programming.
  • Strong hands-on experience with IBM CICS Transaction Server on z/OS.
  • Expertise in z/OS system administration and mainframe infrastructure support.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • CICS TS
    • z/OS
    • JCL
    • SMP/E
    • VTAM
    • TCP/IP
    • RACF
    • JES2/JES3
    • DFSMS
    • Experience with CICS performance tuning and debugging.
    • Knowledge of IBM utilities, dump analysis, and system diagnostics.
    • Experience with automation tools and scripting (REXX preferred).
    • Strong understanding of disaster recovery and high-availability concepts.
    • Ability to support 24x7 production environments and participate in on-call rotations.
    • Experience with IBM MQ, DB2, IMS, or WebSphere integration.
    • Exposure to enterprise monitoring tools and automation frameworks.
    • Experience in large banking, insurance, healthcare, or financial services environments.
    • IBM Mainframe certifications are a plus.
    • Knowledge of DevOps practices in mainframe modernization initiatives is preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
