Job description

Job Title: Workover Consultant
Our Vision: RigUp is where the best workers power the world's most successful projects. We are united by a common mission: to deliver services and technology that fundamentally change how skilled workers and the businesses they serve get hard work done.
Job Description
This role provides senior-level technical consulting support for high-risk well intervention operations involving complex fishing, coiled tubing recovery, and wellbore re-entry activities. The consultant is responsible for managing challenging downhole conditions, including stuck or parted coiled tubing, long-term wellbore obstructions, and failed abandonment scenarios requiring cement drill-out and wellbore restoration. The position requires advanced well control expertise, strong decision-making ability, and extensive hands-on experience in fishing and intervention operations in critical well conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical guidance for complex fishing operations involving stuck or parted coiled tubing and downhole equipment
  • Evaluate well conditions and develop safe, executable intervention and recovery strategies for high-risk scenarios
  • Maintain continuous focus on well control integrity and barrier management throughout all operations
  • Advise on pressure control, kill procedures, and safe operating practices during unstable or uncertain well conditions
  • Support planning and execution of multiple well re-entry operations, including cement drill-out from surface to total depth
  • Assess risks associated with trapped pressure, degraded tubing, unknown wellbore conditions, and long-term shut-in wells
  • Provide real-time decision support during rig-based fishing, milling, and intervention activities
  • Guide selection and application of fishing tools, milling assemblies, and wellbore cleanout equipment
  • Ensure proper well control practices are followed without reliance on continuous supervision
  • Support troubleshooting of stuck pipe, obstruction removal, and complex wellbore recovery operations
  • Assist in preparing wells for subsequent abandonment or re-abandonment operations following remediation
  • Review operational procedures and provide recommendations for safe execution of high-risk tasks
  • Act as technical authority for intervention risk mitigation and operational sequencing

Skills and Qualifications
  • Extensive, demonstrated experience in coiled tubing intervention and advanced fishing operations
  • Strong background in high-risk well control environments, including compromised or uncertain wellbores
  • Deep hands-on expertise in recovering stuck or parted tubing and downhole obstructions
  • Proven ability to independently manage well control situations without continuous supervision or instruction
  • Extensive experience with well intervention, workover, and complex rig-based recovery operations
  • Knowledge of cement drill-out, milling, and full wellbore re-entry operations
  • Strong understanding of barrier management and pressure control principles
  • Ability to assess and manage high-consequence operational risk in real time
  • Experience working with long-duration shut-in or legacy wells with unknown downhole conditions
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in complex, unstable, or unpredictable well environments
  • Ability to make critical technical decisions under pressure in safety-sensitive environments
  • Well control certification (IWCF or IADC) or equivalent field-proven expertise required
  • Minimum extensive field experience in fishing, intervention, or workover operations (senior-level capability expected)
