As a senior leader, the Construction Procurement Executive will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, regional leaders, and project teams, while building high-performing procurement organizations and scalable systems that support Suffolk's national footprint. This role balances strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of critical procurement initiatives, vendor partnerships, risk management, and cost optimization.

Responsibilities

Executive Procurement Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, enterprise-wide procurement strategy aligned with Suffolk Construction's business objectives, growth plans, and project delivery model.
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic guidance on sourcing, supply chain risk, cost controls, and market conditions.
  • Establish procurement governance, policies, and best practices that drive consistency, compliance, and performance across all regions and projects.
  • Lead change management initiatives to modernize procurement processes, tools, and analytics.

Organizational Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build, lead, and mentor high-performing procurement teams across projects and regions.
  • Establish clear performance metrics, accountability structures, and development pathways for procurement professionals.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the procurement organization.

Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Partnerships

  • Oversee strategic sourcing initiatives for materials, equipment, subcontractors, and professional services across the enterprise.
  • Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with key vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to drive value, reliability, and innovation.
  • Lead complex, high-value negotiations and contracting efforts to optimize pricing, terms, and long-term partnerships.
  • Monitor vendor performance at an enterprise level and address escalated quality, delivery, or compliance issues.

Financial Stewardship & Cost Optimization

  • Provide executive oversight of procurement budgets and cost-control strategies across major projects and regions.
  • Analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain dynamics to inform proactive sourcing decisions.
  • Partner with finance and operations leadership to drive margin improvement, cost predictability, and risk mitigation.

Risk Management, Compliance & Governance

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate procurement and supply chain risks, including market volatility, shortages, and regulatory challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Suffolk's internal policies and ethical standards.
  • Oversee contract governance, documentation standards, and audit readiness across procurement activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Collaborate closely with executive leadership, regional leaders, project executives, legal, finance, and operations teams to align procurement with project and business needs.
    • Support preconstruction and project planning efforts with strategic procurement insights that improve schedule certainty and cost outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Construction Management, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive procurement or supply chain experience, with significant leadership responsibility in the construction or related industries.
  • Proven experience leading enterprise-level procurement strategies for large, complex, multi-market organizations.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating high-value contracts and managing strategic vendor relationships.
  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to influence margins, cost performance, and risk outcomes.
  • Experience implementing procurement systems, tools, and data-driven decision-making frameworks.
  • Knowledge of regional and local procurement regulations; experience in island or constrained markets is a plus.

Compensation Information

Base Salary for this position is just one component of Suffolk's total compensation package.  Actual salaries may be based on several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's skill set, experience, education and other qualifications.  Suffolk offers a comprehensive benefits package as part of its overall compensation strategy.
