Job description

Position Overview:
The Sr. Planner will lead the development, administration, monitoring, and accuracy of all production work packages. This role is accountable for defining, creating, and supporting both production and vendor work packages throughout the build process, ensuring that the sequencing and timing of detailed tasks align with the requirements of vessel construction for assigned program(s).
Roles and Responsibilities
The Sr. Planner is responsible for:
  • Responsible for leading the effort of defining, developing, and providing through-build support for Production and Vendor Work Packages. Utilize extensive craft knowledge and experience to decompose and sequence the engineering design in alignment with contractual obligations and company standards for assigned program(s).
  • Define work activities, budget, schedule logic, resource, and establishing interfaces in accordance with the build strategy and facility capacity constraints.
  • Verify work package availability for planned production look-ahead. In the event of a work package constraints, work with scheduling and production to balance work.
  • Work closely with production to coordinate the flow of products and materials to ensure smooth and efficient construction.
  • Ability to review, and process Engineering Build of Material (BoM) data, developing and maturing material BoMs and requisitions in ERP system.
  • Perform material reconciliation of Advance Build of Material (ABoM) and the final Manufacturing Build of Material (MBoM) to ensure correct demand quality.
  • Proactive in problem solving working with wider business in finding solutions for material not supporting required in yard dates, presenting solutions and mitigations.
  • Ability to produce and present metrics and reports such as material availability % on production activities, lead time analysis impact, and material inventory and delivery times.
  • Support the identification, development and management of demand for Min/Max and Kanban registers for consumables, fasteners and fixing and common items.
  • Ability to operate 3D Model for Work Package definition, sequencing, and BoM enrichment.
  • Apply and develop estimates and norms to ensure work packages are budgeted to industry standards.
  • Work closely with the Master Scheduler to ensure optimum resource loading and work center capacity conformance.
  • Present schedules and plan intent in production pre-build reviews.
  • Develop production work packages in PDF format, populated with all the information production require to start and finish work safely and successfully - demonstrating attention to detail and right first time quality.
  • Generate and support schedule look ahead, communicate the plan intent for planned hours, resource, and tooling requirements.
  • Support work package and material staging through the various production phases.
  • Resolving planning issues in the field, demonstrating creativity to be adaptable to keep progressing the build while working for solutions.
  • Facilitate work package focused meetings with internal and external stakeholders to develop and manage schedule for assigned program(s).
  • Assist with capacity planning to define operational resource needs to meet the schedule demand.
  • Support Schedulers as a team-oriented effort to accomplish objectives.
  • Assist Production Control Manager and others with various special projects.
  • Responsible for interfacing with customers and internal departments (Contracts, Supply Chain, Production, Finance, Engineering, etc.) on related issues involving scope and preparation of program/project schedules.
  • Implement and enforce systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate and contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to create work instructions, best practices, tools, and manage small projects for the business to improve efficiency and reduce waste.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate with appropriate experience; Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with appropriate experience preferred.
  • 10 + years' experience in production planning in a shipbuilding manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work within tight timelines and multi-task various activities in an organized manner.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of teams and people.
  • DOD or DHS planning experience within a ship manufacturing environment.
