About the role

The Senior Unity Engineer is a mid level position on the iCivics Software Development Team. Reporting into the Director of Technology, the Senior Unity Engineer will be part of an Agile development team and contribute to iCivics’ website and education products. The focus of this role will be to maintain and enhance our current Unity games and their dependency libraries and supporting code.

This person will
  • Software engineering on Unity Games, existing and new.
  • Identify areas in code and technology stack for improvements and enhancements.
  • Participate in Agile Ceremonies for standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Code reviews and pull requests.
  • Choose technologies, frameworks, and libraries for implementations.
  • Participate in architecture and design sessions and planning.
  • Participate in QA and testing activities.
  • Document code and architecture.
  • Other tasks as assigned by your manager.

  • Game development: You must have experience working with game development. You must understand how the games operate and the entire tech stack from front end to back end. This also includes compliance issues like WCAG AA and other adaptive compliance requirements.
  • Creative and innovative: You have a passion for technical innovation and a desire to create exceptional, fun, and friendly game experiences. You thrive when pushing limits, generating original ideas, and motivating your staff to think creatively and sustainably. You’re not afraid to ask questions or challenge assumptions.
  • An effective communicator and collaborator: You clearly articulate a vision for the technical design of our games. You are confident and comfortable working collaboratively with software engineers, data scientists, and other technical team members to communicate functional and non-functional requirements. You will also be able to work with vendors and collaborate on existing and futures games with them.
  • Maintenance and SDLC: You will be responsible for keeping all iCivics’ games up to date, secure, and functional. You must understand the Software Development Life Cycle and make sure iCivics’ games will stay alive and are sustainable well into the future.
What you’ll need
  • 3-5 years of experience in Unity Game Development
  • Mastery of coding and code design patterns.
  • Deep knowledge of data structures and coding principles.
  • Deep knowledge of computing theory, scalability, security, and networking.
  • Mastery of mobile application development, specifically in Unity.
  • Knowledge of HTML, HTML5, CSS, and other front end technologies.
  • Experience with Agile and other production processes.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and managed services such as AWS and Google Cloud.
  • Mastery of debugging techniques and tools.
  • Experience using visual documentation tools like Visio or Lucid Chart
  • Mastery of code repositories and pipelines like Github or Bitbucket.
  • Mastery of AI tools and IDEs
  • Mastery of deployment into the app stores, like the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Skills that are a plus
  • Experience with frameworks such as React JS.
  • Experience with Open Source tech stacks like Node.js and Next JS.
  • Experience and understanding of DB technologies such as SQL and noSQL
  • Understanding of deployment pipelines like Cloudformation or others.
Additional skills

Salary

Salary: The expected starting salary for this position is $110,000 - $115,000 plus benefits.
