Job description

Applicants must have an Active Top Secret/SCI US Government clearance with polygraph. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph.
Warehouse Generalists at the senior performance level work with minimal to no supervision and are capable of working as the single point of contact within a customer's space if required by the position. They are expected to demonstrate advanced proficiency with the work in at least one warehouse work unit and have the ability to further advance proficiency in others. They must complete the Sponsor specific training indicated below.
Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities
  • With little to no guidance, senior Warehouse Generalists will be expected to perform one or more of the below work duties as well as other ad hoc warehouse tasks in support of the Sponsor's mission. They are expected to be proficient in the duties of at least one work unit and to advance their proficiency in other work units with the goal of being a "plug and play" resource within the warehouse.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment such as: gas/diesel/electric-powered forklifts of various capacities ranging from 1,000 to 15,000 lbs.; pallet jacks; hand trucks; automatic or manual shrink wrap machines; warehouse scales; banding and strapping equipment; wheeled carts and cages; J-bars; dock and lift gate equipment; and packing tape dispensers.
  • Tasks related to office moves and relocations such as: manual lifting and lowering of boxes, totes, bins, and furniture; wrapping of furniture and other items using furniture pads or stretch wrap; assisting in the team lift of safes and other heavy material onto the appropriate dollies, skids, or material handling equipment; determining if a pre-move or post-move survey is required.
  • Utilization of manual and/or electric hand tools for activities such as: mounting or dismounting white boards, pictures, and electronic equipment; assisting with measuring and cutting wood and the assembly of crates used for the packaging of non-standard items.
  • Receiving and distribution functions such as: pick-up and delivery functions; validation of material contents against packing lists and manifests; inspection of received material for damage; loading and unloading of material to/from trucks, trailers, vans, and other commercial vehicles; preparation of appropriate shipping documentation and labeling according to shipping method.
  • Packing and Crating functions such as: applying HAZMAT training to properly package, handle, and transport hazardous materials; providing expertise in the development of plans for blocking, bracing, and cushioning delicate/fragile material; building complex, custom crates for the shipment of non-standard items; providing technical guidance to junior Warehouse Generalists on proper packing and crating policies and procedures; properly preparing documents and packaging for packages containing HAZMAT; assisting with measuring and cutting specialized boxes; weighing, cubing, banding, and applying burlap to packages; utilizing lnstapak and other packing materials,
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment utilized in conjunction with the execution of these duties to include: oiling, cleaning, and changing of filters.
  • Transport and deliver material in the most expeditious, secure and safe manner possible.
  • Organize run to ensure efficient and timely transport and delivery of material. Assess alternative route options. Adapt to ad-hoc customer requests in transit and modify route as necessary. Properly label all material. Distribute material, collect authorized signatures for the addresses upon delivery. Store special handling packages in accordance with safety and regulatory procedures. Coordinate with their sponsor supervisor and fellow couriers to balance the workload. Communicate with others regarding status of deliveries and any changes to routes. Provide guidance to less experienced officers regarding route preparations. Perform duties at the Mail Inspection Facility (MIF) and adhere to all standard operating procedures which include: retrieving Sponsor mail from the USPS and delivering to the MIF; sorting the mail before and after the required security processes; and delivery of cleared mail to the main Sponsor mail room. Please note that employees are subject to quarantine in place at any time during the process if Security deems it necessary for containment purposes. May need to adjust daily work schedule to accommodate mission requirements.

  • Enter timely and accurate data into appropriate tracking databases. Complete required scanning and receipts for property documentation in the document control system.
  • Maintain professional interactions with customers, internal and external contacts. Complete full range of duties including high profile/high priority requirements. Exercise discretion, tact and good judgment when performing duties on behalf of Sponsor. Be mindful and respectful of multi-cultural differences in a variety of environments, including unexpected and ambiguous situations. Demonstrate strong customer service skills and ensure quality service by responding to customer questions, resolving problems and interacting in a positive and polite manner. Demonstrate strong communications skills with all customers, team members, internal and external contacts to ensure mission requirements are met.
  • Support "on call" duties on a rotational basis. Respond to all requests while "on call"; will be assigned a cell phone during this time.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. Train less experienced couriers, share knowledge and expertise with others.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of internal policies and regulations that pertain to storage, packing, shipping, and handling of materials (to include specialized materials)
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy particularly with OGA's and embassy personnel, maturity and good judgment while interacting with internal and external contacts (e.g., security guards and other government officials.)
  • Completion of commercially available HAZMAT training on at least one mode of shipment and, if required by their assigned work unit, successful completion of Sponsor specific HAZMAT training to be provided by Sponsor
  • Strong working knowledge in carpentry techniques and procedures
  • Thorough understanding of the Working Capital Fund business operating procedures
  • Thorough understanding of security protocols and how it pertains to warehouse operations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Agency regulations, policies, and unique Agency authorities as related to transportation and delivery of materials including security protocols

  • Ability to apply basic mathematical skills when measuring, weighing, cubing material
  • Ability to use power tools and machinery
  • Ability to operate forklifts (must have completed forklift training within 60 days of start); additionally, Sponsor will provide required familiarization with site specific forklifts
  • Extensive knowledge of Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas
  • Excellent driving skills and a clean driving record
  • Experience with Windows-based computer applications
  • Experience operating various material handling equipment in accordance with safety requirements and procedures
  • Experience safely moving material of various sizes and weights throughout a warehouse as well as onto and off of trucks
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate an industrial shredder in accordance with safety requirements and procedures
  • Ability to make decisions and solve complex problems based on knowledge, experience, expertise, and research (if needed) that result in successful outcomes; additionally, ability and willingness to impart knowledge to less experienced Warehouse Generalists to expand baseline knowledge of craft and improve future decision-making activities

Physical Work Environment
Work is performed in two environments -- a temperature-controlled warehouse on concrete floors where there is exposure to moving vehicles, fumes, noise, dust, and cramped spaces or driving a customer vehicle to and from sponsor and customer sites as well as within a mailroom/office. Work involves a significant amount of standing, driving, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs.). Frequent use of computer terminals is also required, as well as occasional work outdoors in all weather conditions.

  • Maintain a clean driving record. Clean driving record, defined as:
    • Negative point accumulation is not to exceed minus four (-4) points
    • Zero (0) driving suspensions or revocations
    • Zero (0) incidents of serious motor vehicle violation, including, but not limited, to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; reckless driving; leaving the scene of an accident, or a series of convictions that reflect a pattern of unsafe behavior.
    • Has not been assigned to any alcohol safety action program or driver alcohol rehabilitation program.
    • Has not been assigned to any driver improvement programs

Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Special Certifications:
  • Forklift training within 60 days of start
  • Class B driver's license.
  • Pass DOT medical physical for operating trucks.

Compensation Details:
US: $30.00 - $36.00
