Job Summary: The Telecommunications Mechanic II is responsible for leading telecommunications infrastructure installation, implementation, testing, and upgrade activities supporting a U.S. Air Force environment. This role provides technical oversight and support for ISP/OSP fiber optic and copper cabling projects.
Essential Duties:
  • Lead ISP/OSP fiber design implementation and installation efforts
  • Oversee conduit pathways, manholes, handholes, and building entrance facilities
  • Perform advanced OTDR testing and fiber troubleshooting
  • Validate grounding/bonding compliance and electrical readiness for network equipment
  • Coordinate large-scale cable plan upgrades and flighline deployments
  • Ensure compliance with TIA/EIA, NEC, and DoD standards
  • Provide quality assurance and inspection of telecommunications installation
Minimum Experience, Education, and Certification:
  • Associate's degree in telecommunications, electronics, information technology, or related discipline preferred
  • A BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) or BICSI Technician certification can be used in lieu of a degree.
  • 6-10 years of ISP/OSP and telecommunications installation experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Department of Defense (DOD) or large enterprise telecommunication infrastructure projects
  • Fiber optic certification (COA or equivalent) required
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience working with the U.S. Air Force structure (preferred)
  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and the physical layer network
  • Ability to conduct site surveys and assess telecommunications infrastructure requirements
  • Basic understanding of power requirements and the ability to perform rudimentary power estimations
  • Experience with Fiber Optic Cabling and performing the test set to identify as well as mark for use
  • Experience using test equipment to measure the amperage usage and circuits on panels.

Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods of time. Employees must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and work on elevated platforms or in confined spaces as needed. The role also requires the ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment, and to use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Work is performed in active environments while maintaining compliance with all applicable safety requirements
Work Environment:
Work is performed in telecommunications rooms, data centers, warehouses, and active operational facilities. The position may require indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions and temperatures and may involve exposure to elevated noise levels, dust, construction materials, and other conditions typical of industrial and construction sites. Employees may work on ladders, lifts, raised platforms, or in confined spaces, and may support installations that require strict adherence to safety, security, and operational procedures. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated work areas.
