Job SummaryNetmaker Communications, LLC (NMC) is seeking a Senior Telecom Engineer to support our Managed Services Provider Business Unit as well as our Next-Generation 9-1-1 Interoperability Test Lab. Candidate must be familiar with carrier grade VOIP service delivery platforms as well as emerging IPV6  requirements for VOIP and NG 9-1-1.  Candidate must also be experienced with Class 5IP-PBX technology to include Session Border Controllers and Policy Engines utilized for advanced VoIP call routing.

 Work ScheduleThis position is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. East Coast Time. This position is an on-site position located at company headquarters in Winchester, VA.
 
 
 

 Primary Functions
  • Lead engineering of carrier-grade VoIP platforms (SBCs, softswitches, policy engines).
  • Design and validate SIP-based call routing and interoperability across multi-vendor environments.
  • Support NG9-1-1 / ESInet architectures, including location services and emergency call flows.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting (signaling, media, routing, and performance issues).
  • Integrate voice systems into enterprise and carrier networks (IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, cloud).
  • Support TDM decommissioning and SIP migration strategies.
  • Execute interoperability testing and validation within lab environments.
  • Develop engineering documentation and support customer engagements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, and implement carrier-grade VoIP solutions (Class 4/5 softswitches, SBCs, policy engines).
  • Engineer and troubleshoot end-to-end SIP call flows (signaling, media, routing, failover).
  • Support NG9-1-1 / ESInet environments, including call routing and location services.
  • Perform deep troubleshooting using packet capture and call trace analysis.
  • Integrate VoIP solutions into IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, and cloud/hybrid environments.
  • Support TDM to IP migration efforts (PRI to SIP transitions).
  • Implement and validate security controls (TLS, SRTP, SBC policies).
  • Conduct interoperability testing and validation in a lab environment.
  • Develop technical documentation, call flows, and engineering designs.
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and internal engineering teams.

Required Qualifications
  • 10-15+ years of experience in VoIP, telecommunications, or network engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Science and Technology, Telecommunications or related field.
  • Strong expertise in SIP, RTP, codecs, and call routing.
  • Experience with SBC platforms (Ribbon, Oracle/Acme Packet, Audiocodes, etc.).
  • Experience with IP-PBX systems and SIP trunking environments.
  • Strong networking knowledge (routing, switching, QoS, VLANs, IPv6).
  • Experience troubleshooting complex, multi-vendor VoIP environments.
  • Master's degree a plus.
