What is a senior technical support?

Senior Technical Support specialists are experienced professionals who provide advanced assistance and troubleshooting for technical issues related to products, services, or systems. They handle complex problems that frontline support staff cannot resolve and often serve as a bridge between customers and engineering teams. Their responsibilities may include mentoring junior staff, creating documentation, and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective problem resolution.

How does a senior technical support professional typically interact with other departments to resolve complex customer issues?

Senior Technical Support professionals often collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and quality assurance teams to address complex technical challenges. When an issue exceeds frontline troubleshooting, they escalate cases, provide detailed diagnostics, and may participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure timely resolution. This collaboration not only facilitates faster solutions for customers but also helps identify recurring problems and drive product improvements. Effective communication and teamwork are essential skills in this role, as it often acts as a bridge between the customer and internal technical teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior technical support specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Senior Technical Support specialist, you need advanced troubleshooting skills, in-depth knowledge of operating systems and networks, and typically several years of experience in IT support roles. Familiarity with ticketing systems like Zendesk or ServiceNow, remote diagnostic tools, and relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) are highly valuable. Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving abilities enable you to resolve complex issues and guide both users and junior staff. These skills are crucial for minimizing downtime, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining efficient IT operations.

What is the difference between Senior Technical Support vs Technical Support?

Job description

We are hiring someone to grow into a high-level technical support role over time. This is not a senior position on day one, and we are up front about that. It is a build-from-the-ground-up role for someone with a real technical foundation and a strong drive to learn.

You will start by learning our equipment, our processes, and our shows from the ground up, and grow into someone the whole company leans on for technical problem-solving.

If you want a job where you already know everything on day one, this is not it. If you want to be built into the technical backbone of a growing company, keep reading.

You will wear a lot of hats. In a growing company, the work changes week to week.

What to Expect:

  • Set up, operate, and tear down LED video walls and AV systems at trade shows and corporate events. This is real physical work with overtime; long days, weekends, and some nights.
  • Travel to shows around the country, including some multi-day and overnight trips. (All Travel Expenses Covered)
  • Load, drive, and unload a box truck, and handle equipment safely.
  • Prep, test, and troubleshoot gear in the warehouse before it ships.
  • Learn and help maintain our IT infrastructure and internal systems as you grow: networks, computers, software tools, and the processes that keep the company running.
  • Pitch in on light coding/scripting, automation, and process-improvement work as you grow. This is not the main job, but a plus.
  • Solve problems on the fly, on site, under pressure, and write down what you learn so the whole team gets better. SOP writting/documentation is important.
  • Do whatever the day needs.

What We're Looking For

  • A technical background: IT, AV, computer science, electronics, networking, or a strong hands-on equivalent.
  • Real comfort with computers, Basic IT, and networking, and the willingness to learn our systems deeply.
  • Some coding or scripting ability, or a genuine drive to learn it. Development will not be your main scope, but it helps.
  • Strong self-motivation. You do not wait to be told what to do next.
  • A strong drive to learn and to act. You figure things out, and you move.
  • Willing and able to travel, work long and irregular event hours (evenings and weekends happen), and do physical work: lifting, driving, and being on your feet for many hours.
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record to operate company vehicles, including/up to a 26-ft box truck.
  • Reliable, coachable, and easy to work alongside on a small team.

Nice to have: live event or show production experience; networking, media server, or AV control experience; exposure to LED processors, video switching, lighting/DMX, or audio; box-truck or non-CDL driving background.

Why Work at TLL

  • A real growth path. This role is built to train you up into a high-level technical role. We are investing in someone to grow, not just filling a seat.
  • You'll be mentored directly by our senior technical team.
  • Variety. No two weeks look the same. Travel projects, live events, warehouse work, and IT, all in one job.
  • Ownership and impact. In a growing company, your work is visible, and it matters.
  • Interesting work with high-end event technology on real projects, from big trade shows to corporate stages.
  • A tight, supportive team that backs each other up.

Company Description

Top LED Lumination (TLL) is a Las Vegas-based event-technology company. We provide LED video walls, audiovisual systems, and the crew to run them for trade show booths, corporate live events, and permanent installations across the country.

What makes us different: we own our gear and field our own technicians. Our clients get one accountable team from planning through show day, not a chain of subcontractors. We are a growing, hands-on company where people wear many hats and take real ownership of their work.
