Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on, talented Senior. Agile Coach to join our dynamic fast paced Product Team. The Agile Coach is responsible for coaching and mentoring Product Owners, Technical leads, Team Leads, QA leads and Directors to leverage agile principles, practices and frameworks in order to deliver high value business capabilities. You will serve as a subject matter expert on introducing agile and scaling agile across the rest of the product organization. Our Senior Agile Coach will embrace servant leadership and display behaviors that come with the key mindset shifts associated with being agile. We'll look to you to identify opportunities for continuous operational and/or team improvements.

Responsibilities & Deliverables:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert to instill a culture of measurement with respect to both the impact of the change to the business and the effectiveness of the system of delivery
  • Works with teams to assist them in implementing and improving their Agile practices    
  • Stand up new teams, including providing interactive Agile and ongoing coaching    
  • Works with teams to become effective and efficient in their use of Agile practices
  • Assess the Agile maturity of the team(s) and coach to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable     
  • Facilitate workshop training on Agile frameworks, competencies, and methodologies       
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations to ensure the effectiveness of Agile programs and recommends complex and/or highly comprehensive training modifications as necessary       
  • Coach teams on how to remove complex roadblocks and impediments to change and delivery
  • Drive continuous improvement through transparency, balance, flow, respect, customer focus, collaboration, and agreement 
  • Proactively collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to address Agile knowledge gaps to support Agile effectiveness
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging developments and trends for assigned areas of responsibility, assess the impact, and collaborate with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions
  • Direct and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned areas of responsibility
  • Identify and direct the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and/or business unit for assigned areas of responsibility
  • Provide subject matter expertise to team members and applicable stakeholders on complex projects for assigned areas of responsibility

30 Days

  • If remote, you will come onsite for a 1-2 week "bootcamp" to immerse yourself in our culture, our product and our tech stack
  • As a hands-on Scrum Master, you will work with 2 agile "nucleus" teams (Lead, QA and Product Owners) to understand how we currently identify what and how we deliver software
  • As an Agile Coach, you will spend time with Directors and VPs in Product to better understand our strengths, our weaknesses and our misconceptions of Agile SDLC
  • Working with senior leadership in Product, you will align with the organization's North Star and identify the initial, critical steps (and the metrics that go with them) in getting us performant as an Agile product team
  • You will meet biweekly with your direct manager where, together, you will identify and eliminate hurdles that are in front of you to accomplish the above

60 Days

  • As a hands-on Scrum Master, you will execute on elements of the above identified plan with respect to your two teams
  • As a hands-on Agile Coach, you will execute on elements of the above identified plan with respect to Director and VP-level stakeholders
  • You will host a scrum of scrum meetings with senior leadership to identify metrics and how the teams are performing against their milestones
  • At the tail end of the 60 days, you will pull out of being a hands on scrum master and start to coach and reassign responsibilities to select members of the team

90 Days

  • You will start by re-evaluating what has worked and what hasn't as well as come up with a plan and start executing on it to close in on the gaps that still exist
  • As a hands-off Scrum Master, you will execute on rolling out the agile transformation to two other Agile teams within the product organization
  • You will continue to evolve the scrum of scrums meeting and the metrics that make it a productive ceremony 
  • You will play a meaningful role in helping hire future members of the Product team

Organizational Alignment

  • Reports to the Chief Product Officer
  • Fosters close cooperative relationships with cross functional teams
Qualifications

Skills & Work Traits:

  • Experience in presenting and discussing to a large audience, including Associate to Senior Engineers, Architects, Directors and VPs
  • Demonstrable, recent (~2 years) Agile training/conference/user group attendance
  • Agile training and facilitation across teams and all stakeholders 
  • Experience working with Continuous Integration, Test Driven Development and Continuous Delivery
  • Experience with pair programming/work (e.g., writing user stories with product owners)
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and technologies to better facilitate SDLCs
  • Familiarity with the product development lifecycle for both enterprise on-premise as well as SaaS products

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience as an Agile Coach helping teams efficiently deliver software
  • 4+ years of Scrum Master experience across 2 different organizations
  • 5+ years of diverse technical software development experience, playing at least two distinct roles such as QA, Dev, Product or Project Management, etc.

Education:

  • Bachelor's in Information Technology or a related field or equivalent job experience
