Job description

IMEG is seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join our Urbandale, Iowa team. In this role, you will lead design efforts and collaborate with staff to deliver innovative structural solutions for buildings and other structures. You will work closely with engineers, consultants, and clients to provide engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight, ensuring projects meet IMEG's high standards and client expectations. Principal Responsibilities

  • Support design efforts for the analysis and design of structural systems using engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively.
  • Support project execution as part of a team, leading planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project progress and budget.
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants.
  • Provide in-process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure compliance with industry and client standards.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering; contribute to research and innovation efforts.
  • Prioritize safety and conduct oneself ethically and professionally in all engineering work.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
  • Oversee projects through their full life cycle, including developing designs, construction documents, and participating in construction administration duties such as reviewing submittals, RFIs, and conducting job site observations.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
  • Structural Engineer (SE) License and/or passed the Structural Engineer (SE) Exam preferred
  • 4 years of experience minimum required, 5 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures
  • Strong training and mentoring skills
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate effective team building skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficiency in the use of Building Information Model software
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 15% with occasional overnight stays

Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
