Providing air traffic control and airport surface safety and efficiency systems and tools, we are dedicated to creating aviation systems and services that enable safe, predictable and efficient operations. We deliver innovative solutions to Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), airports and airlines at over 100 locations in more than 45 countries. We are currently seeking a motivated, enthusiastic Senior Staff Systems Engineer interested in designing, deploying, integrating, tuning, and commissioning advanced ATM systems as part of our Automation and Surveillance team. This position offers opportunities to travel internationally, acquire a diverse range of practical engineering experience, and interact with customers around the world.  Currently, we are seeking an engineer to support the execution of ATM projects for several airports in Australia.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Understand customer requirements (including safety and security standards) and decompose them to generate system designs and architectures, hardware requirements, and software requirements.

  • Perform design analysis and trade studies.

  • Lead small, interdisciplinary teams to develop detailed designs and technical and programmatic artifacts.

  • Develop technical documentation and presentation materials for design reviews.

  • Lead programmatic and technical discussions with customers.

  • Help integrate, configure, and test systems in the factory and in the deployed environment.

  • Work collaboratively with customers, prime contractors, and subcontractors to integrate systems and subsystems.

  • Analyze and reduce large datasets to quantify system performance, investigate anomalies, and develop solutions.

  • Support proposal activities by analyzing requirements, assessing compliance/NRE, providing cost and schedule input, and providing/editing technical written material.

  • Utilize and improve existing Saab processes, policies, and products.

  • Provide mentoring and oversight to less-experienced engineers.

    Compensation:

    • $132,000 - $171,600

    The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

    Skills and Experience:
    • A bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or computer science from an accredited institution or relevant military education & training

    • 15+ years of relevant experience

    • Opportunity for international travel (up to 10%)

    • Computer programming experience in a high-level language such as Matlab, C/C++, Java, etc.

    • The ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment.

    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

    • Demonstrated personal time management, planning, and organizing skills.

    • Technical project planning skills (including providing cost and schedule estimates).

    • Drive to take ownership of project execution.

    Desired Expertise:

    • Knowledge of Air Traffic Surveillance and Control systems including international ATC terminology, standards and procedures

    • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems

    • Familiarity with IP networks including Firewalls

    • The ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal), including presenting to and collaborating with both technical and non-technical colleagues and customers.

    • An interest in international travel and the ability to work with technical counterparts from different countries and cultures around the world.
