We are presently seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator who will work out of our corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. and is committed to ensuring overall business success and corporate governance. In addition to a vast portfolio of high-performance photonic products and technologies, 

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administrationSQL clusteringperformance tuning, and database patching and maintenance. This role will be responsible for ensuring high availability, reliability, and security of our SQL Server environments that support critical business applications. Experience with SAP Basis administration or SAP Security is required; experience with both is a plus.

Main responsibilities: 

  • Administer, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments;
  • Manage SQL Server clusteringAlways On Availability Groups, and disaster recoveryconfigurations;
  • Perform monthly patching, upgrades, and migrations while ensuring minimal downtime;
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues;
  • Implement and maintain database backup and recovery strategies;
  • Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure database reliability and compliance;
  • Experience with SAP Basis or SAP Security required;
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and monitoring tools for proactive management;
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation and runbooks;
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed;
  • Support SAP Basis administration or SAP Security activities such as user management, role assignments, and system monitoring, if applicable.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience);
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA in enterprise environments;
  • Strong experience with SQL Server upgrades;
  • Proven experience managing SQL Server clusters and Always On Availability Groups;
  • Solid understanding of database performance tuningquery optimization, and indexing strategies;
  • Experience with Windows Server administration and Active Directory integration;
  • Knowledge of database securitycompliance standards, and data encryption practices;
  • Experience performing patchingupgrades, and database migrations;
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. 

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

  • Familiarity with PowerShell scriptingAzure SQL, or cloud-based SQL services.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools(e.g., SCOM, Redgate, SolarWinds, Idera).
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and change management procedures.
