Position Overview
Autodesk is building a shared AI-assisted commerce platform that enables AI copilots and agents to safely discover, recommend, and transact Autodesk offerings.

As a Backend / Platform Developer, you will design and build the core APIs and orchestration layer (MCP) that connect AI systems to Autodesk's existing commerce infrastructure (pricing, subscriptions, entitlements, checkout), with enterprise-grade reliability, security, and governance.

This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, distributed systems, and applied AI enablement.
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable APIs for: Product discovery and offering configuration, Pricing and promotion resolution, Subscription, entitlement, and eligibility validation, Ensure APIs are deterministic, explainable, and versioned for AI

  • Build orchestration workflows that allow AI agents to perform multi-step commerce actions safely

  • Implement guardrails for: Pricing and contract rules, Enterprise and channel policies, Approval flows and rollback handling, Provide observability, audit logs, and traceability for AI-driven actions

  • Partner with AI/ML developers to integrate LLM-based agents via tools, APIs, and function calling

  • Design systems resilient to non-deterministic AI behavior

  • Support evaluation, monitoring, and error handling for AI-triggered workflows

  • Integrate with existing Autodesk commerce, identity, and platform services

  • Define API contracts and platform standards used across product teams

  • Contribute to long-term platform architecture and scalability decisions


Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience building backend or platform services

  • Strong proficiency in Java, Node Js, or similar backend languages (or equivalent)

  • Experience with distributed systems, APIs, and service orchestration

  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD)

  • Hands-on experience integrating backend systems with: LLMs, AI agents, or ML-driven services, Tool / function calling or workflow orchestration

  • Understanding of AI system characteristics: Non-determinism, Latency tradeoffs, Safety and guardrails

  • Experience with: Authorization, security, and data protection, Auditability and compliance requirements, High-availability and fault-tolerant systems


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commerce systems (pricing, subscriptions, billing, payments)

  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and async workflows

  • Experience building shared platforms used by multiple teams

  • Exposure to experimentation, metrics, or AI evaluation frameworks

Salary transparency

Salary is one part of Autodesk's competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $98,000 and $175,450. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, our compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
