Job description

The Materials Engineer works in conjunction with the Engineering Manager or Sr. level Engineer. The Materials Engineer is responsible for maintaining existing material designs and may work on the development, validation, release and launch of new materials, working in a cross-functional team environment. Responsibilities also include: continuous improvement of current production products/processes, assistance with manufacturing process improvement, customer concerns, warranty analysis, and supplier development. Main material focus is with rubber compounds and process chemicals for metal preparation for rubber bonding.
What You'll Do:

Leadership: Manage multiple projects. Justify and implement capital investment projects. Execute plans that provide customer value. Establish program timing together with members of appropriate teams to ensure adequate product testing and development.
Technical: Design, develop, implement, maintain, and improve robust materials for products and processes. Resolve difficult problems systematically with effective solutions. Follow a standard phase gate development procedure for new material and process development activities.
Quality: Develop capable materials with appropriate tolerances for manufacturability. Provide product instructions and design FMEA's. Develop processes and systems that comply with recognized quality management system requirements.
Teamwork: Lead/Participate in cross functional teams to implement new products or continuously improve processes.

What You'll Bring:
  • Minimum requirement of BS Materials/Chemical Engineering. Two to seven years' material design experience. Recent college graduates may be considered where appropriate.
  • Experience on rubber materials (NBR/HNBR) for rubber molded components and metal preparation for rubber bonding, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of 3D modeling software preferred. SolidWorks and ANSYS preferred.
  • Microsoft Office products Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Project management experience with emphasis on leading cross-functional project teams.
  • Thorough understanding of Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP), PPAP, and FMEA methods and tools.
