Senior Software Architect information

How does a Senior Software Architect typically collaborate with development and product teams during a project lifecycle?

A Senior Software Architect works closely with both development and product teams throughout a project's lifecycle. They are responsible for translating business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring alignment between stakeholders, and guiding developers on architectural decisions. Regular interactions include design reviews, technical mentoring, and collaborating with product managers to refine requirements. This collaborative approach ensures that the final product is scalable, maintainable, and meets business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Software Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Software Architect, you need extensive experience in software design, architecture principles, and a strong background in programming, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with architectural frameworks (like TOGAF), cloud platforms (such as AWS or Azure), and modeling tools (like UML) is highly valuable, and certifications in these areas can be advantageous. Leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate teams and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. These competencies are crucial for ensuring robust, maintainable systems that align with organizational goals and adapt to evolving technology landscapes.

What is the difference between Senior Software Architect vs Software Development Manager?

AspectSenior Software ArchitectSoftware Development Manager
Primary FocusDesigning software architecture and technical strategyManaging development teams and project delivery
Required SkillsTechnical expertise, system design, codingLeadership, project management, communication
Work EnvironmentCollaborates with architects and developersOversees teams and coordinates projects
CertificationsOften includes software architecture certifications (e.g., TOGAF)Project management certifications (e.g., PMP) often preferred

The Senior Software Architect primarily focuses on designing and overseeing the technical architecture of software systems, while the Software Development Manager manages development teams and ensures project delivery. Both roles require strong technical skills, but differ in leadership scope and responsibilities.

How much does a senior software architect make?

A senior software architect typically earns between $120,000 and $180,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. They often have advanced skills in system design, software development, and may hold certifications like TOGAF or AWS certifications.

What does a senior software architect do?

A senior software architect designs and oversees the development of complex software systems, establishing technical standards and ensuring alignment with business goals. They evaluate technologies, create architecture diagrams, and collaborate with development teams to implement scalable, maintainable solutions. Strong problem-solving skills and experience with design patterns and software development tools are essential for this role.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the development and extension of robotic simulators to mirror production environments.

  • Develop and optimize motion planning, collision checking, and trajectory behaviors using ROS 2 / MoveIt2.

  • Implement perception components such as object detection, pose estimation, and point-cloud processing for material handling and inspection.

Job description

Promise Robotics is pioneering Physical AI for homebuilding - a rapidly growing, venture-backed company bringing together AI, robotics, and manufacturing to help the homebuilding industry meet the growing demand for housing. Our robotic systems, built andย operatedย inside ย AI-powered factories, give the industry the production capacity, consistency, and speed to build more high-quality homes than traditional methods allow. Our team spans AI researchers and roboticists to factory operators, technicians, and production teams - allย buildingย the future ofย homebuildingย together.ย

We'reย buildingย physical AI for housingย - and unlike most of the field, our robots are already in production, fabricating real structures and generating real operational data every day across multiple factories.ย

We'reย looking for aย Seniorย Robotics Software Developer to join our team and contribute to developingย cutting-edgeย solutions for our core robotic manufacturing technologies.ย This is a senior IC role with architectural ownership and mentorship responsibility.ย

Why join us?
  • Purpose-Driven Work:Contribute to projects with significant social, economic, and environmental impact.ย

  • Growth Opportunities:Be part of a growth-stage startup with substantial upside and leadership potential.ย

  • Cutting-Edgeย Technology:Work onย state-of-the-artย robotics solutions at the intersection of construction and automation.ย

  • Collaborative Culture:Join a diverse, high-performing team committed to continuous learning and innovation.ย

What you'll do:
  • Lead theย development of roboticย simulatorsย ย -ย set up and extend simulation environments and test scenarios that mirror our production cells.ย

  • Lead theย effortย in motion planning and optimizationย - develop andย optimizeย motion-planning and collision-checking behaviors in ROS 2 / MoveIt2.ย

  • Developย perceptionย componentsย - implement object detection, pose estimation, and point-cloud processing tasks for material handling and inspection.ย

  • Write clean, tested codeย - produce well-documented C++ and Python, backed by unit and integration tests.ย ย

  • Debug integration issuesย - help troubleshoot software-hardware issues alongside the robotics and hardware teams.ย

  • Set the engineering bar -ย define standards for architecture, testing, and code quality; lead code reviews; mentor junior and mid-level developers.ย

What you'll need to succeed:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, or related fields (Masters/Ph.D. preferred)ย plus 5+ yearsย of relevant robotics software experience.ย

  • Expert-level C++ and Python,ย withย a track recordย of shipping production-quality robotics software.ย

  • Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and basic control concepts.ย

  • Deep ROS 2 and MoveIt2 experience -ย motion planning, collision checking, and trajectory optimization (e.g., OMPL, CHOMP/STOMP/TrajOpt-style approaches).ย

  • Ability to solve complex problems involving multi-disciplinary engineering concepts.ย

  • Strong hands-on experience with aย robotics simulatorย (Gazebo, Isaac Sim,ย MuJoCo, or similar) including physics simulation.ย

  • Exposure to computer vision or perception concepts.ย ย

  • Eagerness to learn, take feedback, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced startup.ย ย
