Job description

Class Summary Job Description This is the first level in the Deputy Sheriff series. This class is a fully certified Peace Officer responsible for performing duties in assigned divisions of the Sheriff's Office: Court Operations, Field Operations, Support Operations and Jail Operations, based on the needs of the agency and at the discretion of the Sheriff or his designee. Applicants must pass a comprehensive background process (criminal, controlled substance, credit, driving, employment history checks) and an oral interview in the first phase of the recruitment process.

The second phase includes a drug screen, polygraph and psychological exam. Essential Duties Performing general law enforcement duties to include responding to calls, assisting with the apprehension of suspects or inmates, conducting searches for contraband, ensuring the proper handling of evidence, testifying in court, warrant service and serving civil processes and court orders Preparing proper paperwork for affidavits, reports, warrants, confirming validity, and serving documents as required Maintaining daily logs of shift activity and preparing various reports Escorting and transporting inmates to and from various departments, courts, and appointments Resolving disputes between the general public and preparing reports on crimes, violations and accidents as they are encountered in the county Completing reports relating to the arrest and incarceration of subjects in and outside the county and performing searches of those individuals, and inventorying, confiscating, or distributing property related to the case Issuing citations as well as making arrests for violations of laws and ordinances Analyzing evidence, reports, and intelligence in the investigation of incidents and crimes Maintaining safety and security in the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, Courts Annex, Detention Center, and other county locations Attending daily roll call to receive briefing information and instruction concerning duties and criminal activities Court Operations Maintaining courtroom security and order. Supporting deputies and partner agencies.

Conducting courtroom and holding cell security checks. Managing detainee control during routine and emergency situations. Operating security screening equipment and checkpoints.

Performing facility patrols and security inspections. Handling arraignments and court-related proceedings. Field Operations Investigating and apprehending wanted individuals and fugitives.

Executing high-risk warrants and coordinating extraditions. Conducting criminal, gang, narcotics, and vice investigations. Gathering intelligence and supporting multi-agency enforcement operations.

Enforcing state laws and county ordinances. Deploying K-9 resources in support of law enforcement operations. Monitoring offender compliance and conducting field checks.

Supporting public safety through crisis intervention and proactive investigations. Support Operations Maintaining facility safety and security. Monitoring surveillance and screening operations.

Managing agency vehicle assignments and maintenance. Coordinating inmate programs and support services. Overseeing food service operations.

Supervising inmate work details and facility operations. Managing inmate intake, release, and property functions. Coordinating inmate re-entry and transition services.

Promoting community outreach and engagement initiatives. Ensuring compliance with security and operational standards. Public Speaking Duties This position may have to testify in court.

Other Job Requirements/Information Pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing. Background check to include motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting. This job may require 24-hour on-call rotation, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, 10-hour, 12-hour and rotating shifts.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED One year of law enforcement experience Must be currently Georgia P.O.S.T
