Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer information

What does a senior robotic simulation engineer do?

A Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing simulation models for robotic systems. They use advanced software tools to create virtual environments that test and validate robot behaviors before deployment in real-world settings. Their work helps to identify potential issues, improve system performance, and reduce development costs and risks. Additionally, they often collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate simulations with hardware and software development processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior robotic simulation engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer, you need advanced knowledge of robotics, simulation software, algorithm development, and a relevant engineering degree. Expertise in technical tools such as ROS, Gazebo, MATLAB/Simulink, and experience with programming languages like C++ or Python is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you collaborate effectively and drive innovative solutions. These competencies are crucial for designing, testing, and refining robotic systems in complex environments to ensure reliability and performance.

What are some common challenges faced by senior robotic simulation engineers, and how are they typically addressed?

Senior Robotic Simulation Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring simulation accuracy, integrating real-world physics, and maintaining compatibility with both hardware and software updates. Addressing these requires continuous collaboration with cross-functional teams—including software developers, roboticists, and hardware engineers—to validate models and refine simulation parameters. Staying current with the latest simulation tools and regularly updating test environments also help mitigate potential discrepancies between simulated and real-world robot performance, ensuring reliable outcomes for deployment.

What is the difference between Senior Robotic Simulation Engineer vs Robotic Software Developer?

AspectSenior Robotic Simulation EngineerRobotic Software Developer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Robotics, Computer Science, or related fields; experience with simulation toolsBachelor's or higher in Computer Science or Software Engineering; programming skills
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, robotics companies, simulation platformsSoftware development firms, robotics companies, tech startups
Industry UsagePrimarily in robotics, automation, and simulation industriesBroadly in robotics, automation, and software development sectors

The main difference is that Senior Robotic Simulation Engineers focus on developing and testing virtual models of robots to optimize performance, while Robotic Software Developers primarily write and maintain software applications for robots. The simulation engineers work heavily with simulation tools and modeling, whereas software developers focus on coding and software architecture. Both roles require programming skills and industry knowledge, but their core responsibilities differ in scope and focus.

Job description

ZS is a place where passion changes lives. As a management consulting and technology firm focused on improving life and how we live it, we transform ideas into impact by bringing together data, science, technology and human ingenuity to deliver better outcomes for all. Here you'll work side-by-side with a powerful collective of thinkers and experts shaping life-changing solutions for patients, caregivers and consumers, worldwide. ZSers drive impact by bringing a client-first mentality to each and every engagement. We partner collaboratively with our clients to develop custom solutions and technology products that create value and deliver company results across critical areas of their business. Bring your curiosity for learning, bold ideas, courage and passion to drive life-changing impact to ZS.
ZS's Supply Chain & Manufacturing group helps our clients to drive higher product availability at lower costs (stock-outs, carrying costs, and supply chain operating costs) and lower environmental impact through leveraging analytics, automation and process re-design approaches. Our offerings span the spectrum of strategy, advanced analytics, planning and technology to optimize deployment of resources (inventory, network, etc.) while maintaining customer service levels.
MANAGER - MANUFACTURING DIGITAL TWIN
We are seeking a high-impact Digital Twin Manager to lead the charge in designing, selling, and delivering next-generation manufacturing simulation solutions. In this role, you will spearhead the deployment of digital twins that simulate complex physical processes and manufacturing systems, enabling clients to visualize, validate, and optimize their factory operations before they are built or modified.
As a leader within ZS's Supply Chain & Manufacturing practice, you will partner with leading global manufacturers-particularly in biopharma, medtech, and high-tech sectors-to shape digital transformation agendas that use immersive, physics-informed simulations to improve operational agility, quality, and speed to market.
What You'll Do
Simulation & Digital Twin Delivery
  • Architect and implement simulation-first digital twin frameworks that integrate real-time data, process models, and 3D environments to mirror and optimize physical manufacturing systems.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to model, simulate, and validate workflows, enabling clients to test scenarios, reduce downtime, and improve throughput before deploying changes in the real world.
  • Apply knowledge of physics-based modeling, robotics simulation, virtual commissioning, and advanced analytics to support clients in achieving smarter, faster factory performance.

Client Leadership & Transformation Strategy
  • Serve as a trusted advisor for senior manufacturing and digital leaders, helping them identify where and how to deploy digital twin technologies for maximum impact.
  • Shape strategic roadmaps for digital twin adoption-including capability assessments, maturity models, and value realization frameworks.
  • Guide clients through technology selection, system integration, and change management efforts aligned with simulation-led innovation.

Innovation & Asset Development
  • Advance ZS's digital twin offerings by building reusable simulation assets, technical POVs, and cross-industry playbooks.
  • Stay at the forefront of simulation technology trends (e.g., NVIDIA Omniverse, OpenUSD, PLM/CAD connectors) and contribute to thought leadership.

Team Development & Collaboration
  • Lead and mentor global teams of simulation engineers, process modelers, and digital solution architects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, IT, and operations to ensure successful integration of digital and physical ecosystems.

What You'll Bring
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related technical field; Master's or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience in manufacturing operations, simulation, digital engineering, or digital twin implementations.

Technical Expertise
  • Proven experience with manufacturing simulation tools such as Siemens Tecnomatix, Dassault DELMIA, or similar platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of robotics simulation, factory automation, and virtual commissioning practices.
  • Familiarity with NVIDIA Omniverse (USD Composer/View, Nucleus Server), OpenUSD standards, and CAD/PLM tools (NX, Revit, SolidWorks).
  • Understanding of live data integration with MES, SCADA, and ERP systems to enable real-time overlays in digital twins.

Leadership & Communication
  • Strong analytical, consultative, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to articulate technical concepts to business audiences.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams across geographies and projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive decisions.

Nice to Have
  • Experience in regulated industries (biopharma, medtech), with understanding of GxP compliance, 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11.
  • Prior consulting or client-facing experience with complex digital transformation initiatives.
