Senior Analyst, Asset Liability Management

DUCA is looking for a Senior Analyst, Asset Liability Management (ALM) & Market Risk to join our growing team! 

Job Purpose & Summary

The Senior Analyst, Asset Liability Management (ALM) and Market Risk is responsible for leading day-to-day activities related to structural risk management (which includes interest rate risk and foreign exchange currency risk), market risk, capital management and strategic liquidity management within the Treasury function.

Key Accountabilities & Duties

Structural Risk and Market Risk Management

  • Execute enhancements to the interest rate risk, foreign exchange risk management and market risk functions with analysis, exposure identification and recommendations for hedging strategies.
  • Create and maintain models for assessing and managing foreign exchange currency.
  • Act as primary liaison with 3rd party consultants managing DUCA's ALM model.
  • Facilitate the completion of the quarterly Management Risk and Asset Liability Committee (MRALCO) package.
  • Update market rates (for example, Government of Canada bonds and interest rate swaps) and cost of funds comparisons across all of DUCAs funding sources.
  • Implement new agreements and ongoing review of existing agreements with counterparties that facilitate structural risk and market risk management. Agreements include but are not limited to International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) Schedule and Credit Support Annex (CSA) Form.
  • Keep abreast of relevant market and/or regulatory trends by analyzing emerging issues and interpreting regulatory guidance as it pertains to DUCA while making appropriate recommendations.
  • Complete accounting entries for trades on behalf of organization such as derivatives and securities purchases
  • Understand and comply with limits within the Structural Risk Management Policy and Market Risk Management Policy.
  • In partnership with Treasury leadership, conduct annual review and update of Structural Risk Management Policy as it pertains to ALM and Market Risk Management Policy as it pertains to Treasury.

 Capital Management

  • Act as primary liaison with 3rd party consultants managing DUCA's regulatory capital forecasting (ie. leverage ratio, total supervisory risk-weighted capital ratio, retained earnings as a % or risk-weighted assets, tier 1 as a % of risk-weighted assets, capital conservation buffer as a % of risk-weighted assets)
  • Facilitate the annual Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) process and report completion by working with key stakeholders.
  • Analyze capital structure and maintain models that track share redemptions by working with key stakeholders.
  • Review, understand and ensure compliance with limits within the Capital Management Policy.
  • Keep abreast of relevant market and/or regulatory trends by analyzing emerging issues and interpreting regulatory guidance as it pertains to DUCA while making appropriate recommendations.
  • Review, understand and ensure compliance with limits within the Capital Management Policy.
  • Participate in annual review and update of Capital Management Policy.

 Strategic Liquidity Management

  • Act as primary liaison with 3rd party consultants managing DUCA's regulatory Liquidity reporting (ie. LCR, NSFR, NCCF).
  • Facilitate the annual ILAAP process and report completion by working with key stakeholders.
  • Enhance the strategic liquidity management function with analysis, recommendations for strategies to improve liquidity.
  • Keep abreast of relevant market and/or regulatory trends by analyzing emerging issues and interpreting regulatory guidance as it pertains to DUCA while making appropriate recommendations.
  • Review, understand and ensure compliance with limits within the Liquidity Risk Management Policy including Contingent Liquidity Plan.
  • Participate in the annual review and update of Liquidity Risk Management Policy including Liquidity Contingency Plan.

  • Work on projects on as needed basis

 Occupational Experience & Education Requirements

  • 6+ years' progressive experience in Treasury or Finance
  • Experience working with financial models, at a demonstrated advanced level
  • Experience in data preparation, data analysis, and statistical tool sets to manipulate data
  • Post-secondary education, with specialization in accounting or finance
  • CFA, FRM or PRM designation (or working towards)

 Knowledge, Skills & Attributes

  • Knowledge of treasury and asset liability management processes.
  • Knowledge of treasury, funding, cash management and foreign exchange.
  • Strong analytical skills, decision making and organization skills in relation to managing multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional Financial Modelling skills and expert Microsoft Excel user, proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Strong finance acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently with the ability to exercise mature judgment and decision-making.
  • Solid judgment, problem solving and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to handle increased demands during peak periods, e.g. month end, year end
  • Ability to self-manage workload with strong time management, planning prioritization, and organization skills.
  • Continually displays critical thinking skills while seeking out process improvement opportunities.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and driven - especially in the face of resistance or setbacks
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships
  • Detail orientated and meticulous in preparation and review of treasury analytics

Salary: The annual salary range for this position is $69,956 to $87,445.  Actual annual base salaries will vary depending on relevant job-related factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and education/training. This position may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
