Job description

Job Title: CAD Designer III / Senior CAD Designer Type: Contract / Remote ( US based - Work from WA, CA, FL or AL) Compensation: $77 per hour

Overview

System One is seeking a CAD Designer III / Senior CAD Designer to support a leading aerospace client. This role is responsible for the development, modification, and release of CN-controlled engineering designs, models, and drawings supporting umbilical systems, ground support equipment, test hardware, launch infrastructure, and transportation tooling. The ideal candidate will have strong Creo experience, expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5), and hands-on experience with configuration management and engineering change processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop and release CN-controlled designs, models, and drawings for umbilical assemblies, retraction/release mechanisms, routing hardware, launch pad structures, test fixtures, and transportation tooling.

• Define and document interfaces between vehicles, payloads, launch systems, test equipment, and ground support equipment, including mechanical, fluid, and electrical interfaces.

• Develop, modify, and maintain Creo models, assemblies, and drawings in compliance with engineering modeling standards and configuration management requirements.

• Perform model checks, design reviews, and CN release activities to ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and design requirements.

• Generate detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) standards.

• Support the design and development of ground support equipment, test fixtures, lifting fixtures, transport frames, handling tooling, and related mechanical systems.

• Define tooling and system operational requirements, including rigging points, load paths, handling procedures, and interface definitions.

• Maintain product data and configuration control through CN-controlled engineering release processes.

• Collaborate with stress analysts, design engineers, and cross-functional teams to incorporate analysis-driven design changes.

• Ensure all released documentation supports manufacturing, assembly, inspection, testing, and operational requirements.

• Participate in design reviews, engineering change processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), including complex models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.

• Experience developing and managing large assemblies and detailed CAD models.

• Strong knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards.

• Experience producing manufacturing and assembly drawings for aerospace or similar high-precision industries.

• Experience working within configuration management and engineering change (CN) release processes.

• Experience with Windchill or similar product lifecycle/configuration management tools.

• Ability to take designs from model creation through formal engineering release.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a controlled engineering environment.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with umbilical systems, launch infrastructure, or ground support equipment.

• Experience with test fixtures, handling tooling, and transportation hardware design.

• Familiarity with mechanical, fluid, and electrical interface definition.
