About the role
We are looking for a Mines Rescue Senior Advisor - Underground to support emergency response capability and preparedness within our underground mining operations.
Reporting to the Underground HSE Manager, on a Monday to Friday roster and working collaboratively with operational and functional teams, you will be responsible for:
  • Ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto HSE standards, Underground Emergency Management procedures, and MSHA regulations
  • Leading and coordinating Emergency Response Team (ERT) training across all hazard-based response areas including medical, fire, hazmat, confined space, and underground rescue
  • Supporting development and maintenance of emergency and business resilience plans, including Emergency Response and Incident Action Plans
  • Maintaining emergency response equipment and ensuring readiness, serviceability, and compliance
  • Identifying and sourcing additional emergency response equipment and capability improvements
  • Coordinating site-wide emergency preparedness training, including Incident Command, CPR/AED, First Aid, and evacuation procedures
  • Planning, executing, and reviewing emergency response drills, exercises, and audit activities, including underground scenarios
  • Providing leadership during emergency incidents and building strong relationships with external response agencies

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Extensive experience in underground mining and safety
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in underground emergency response within the United States
  • Demonstrated experience delivering training and instruction
  • MSHA 40-hour certification
  • MSHA Blue Card with underground and mine rescue designations
  • Current BLS Provider (CPR/AED and First Aid) certifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
  • Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented, matrix environment
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning and self-development
