The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Department of Radiology is seeking a Senior Imaging Technologist with expertise in CT and general radiography. This role provides imaging services across multiple areas of the hospital, including adult and pediatric care, DEXA, the emergency department, operating room, fluoroscopy, and orthopedic clinic. The Senior Imaging Technologist will perform and instruct others in specialized CT and diagnostic radiography procedures, utilizing advanced imaging equipment while ensuring close patient monitoring and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care throughout each exam.

The University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus opened in the Spring of 2025.  This 469,000 square foot facility is home to UI Health Care's nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. This state-of-the-art clinical facilities also includes a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services.  The facility has been designed to support a superior patient and staff experience; excellence across our patient care, teaching and research missions; convenient access to services; and engaging community partnerships.  UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming, highly-skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of the opening team for this superb new campus, and to help further our mission of: Changing Medicine. Duties Include:

  • Perform and teach specialized imaging procedures utilizing CT and diagnostic imaging equipment with close patient monitoring during exam. This includes independent operation with minimal physician supervision. 
  • Operate, adjust, and manipulate computerized electronic and mechanical components of computerized axial tomographic, angiographic, magnetic resonance systems and multiple modalities of other general diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain, operate and trouble-shoot and report equipment failures.
  • Instruct trainees, students and staff on equipment operation and safety precautions.
  • Explain examination process to patients.
  • Ensure patients welfare and assist physician with medical procedures
  • Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation, I.V. placement, vital sign monitoring and recording, and basic life support; prepare and administer contrast material to patients.
  • Maintain records and results of examinations and archive computer data.
  • Plan daily, regular and STAT scheduling for efficient room utilization.
  • Participate in on-call coverage.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining quality assurance in accordance with hospital, departmental and clinical unit standards.
  • Participate in phantom, human and/or animal research.
  • Maintain knowledge of technical developments, software updates, and related subjects by attending meetings, continuing education programs, and participation in professional organizations and/or review journals or publications.
  • Perform quality assurance procedures and evaluate systems performance.
  • Instruct and/or evaluate the clinical abilities and performance of Radiology Technology or sub-specialty students on a clinical rotation.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public

Schedule: Multiple Shifts available, may include rotating weekend and holiday on call responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must maintain current certification in American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and/or other radiologic related technological certification and Iowa Permit to Practice as required by the State of Iowa for all technologists operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous work or clinical education experience in general radiology in a level 1 Trauma center is desired.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in general radiography is desired.
  • Recent work or clinical education experience in CT and general radiography is desired.
