Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Electrical Design Manager, the Sr. Electrical Design Engineer presents an excellent opportunity for a qualified professional pertaining to design and controls engineering functions of power distribution equipment. As a specialized engineer in switchgear, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical switchgear systems for various industrial, commercial, and utility applications. Your role will involve creating innovative solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and providing technical leadership to a team of engineers. As an experienced professional you will be responsible for individually contributing to product development & engineering by executing advanced tasks, processes, techniques, and procedures in a technical support role.

This role requires candidates to be onsite at Anderson SC location.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and engineering of electrical switchgear systems, including medium and low voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, and control panels.
  • Create a BOM list for critical design components.
  • Review and approve electrical drawings for manufacture.
  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, layout drawings, according to client specifications and pre-established budget.
  • Oversee the integration of switchgear with power distribution systems and control systems.
  • Familiarized and confident with the business R&D workflow, working methods and have a certain technical accumulation in the professional field, and master the professional knowledge and skills in this field.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Review and approve design calculations, technical reports, and project documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and best practices.
  • Complete work independently and receive high level direction of work on projects.
  • Apply creative approaches and procedures to the solution of well-defined problems.
  • Manage switchgear design projects from concept through to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, project managers, and clients, to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Work with the project management team to ensure all project timelines and goals are met or exceeded on multiple projects at any given time.
  • Ensure that all designs meet relevant standards such as IEC, ANSI, UL, and IEEE.
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of switchgear systems to guarantee reliability and performance.
  • Creation of test scripts to prove out functionality of control schemes.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of documentation for compliance and regulatory purposes.
  • Independently carry out R&D work on the existing technology platform, and independently undertake the R&D task of a module or component, complete product design, testing, device selection, documentation, etc.
  • Identify and implement improvements in switchgear design and control systems.
  • Stay current with advancements in electrical engineering technologies and industry trends.
  • Lead research and development efforts to integrate new technologies and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development of new practices and processes within the design team and assist in implementation of these to improve department performance.
  • Develop technical solutions that are innovative and consistent with organization objectives to a wide range of complex problems.
  • Implement sustainable practices to achieve sustainable outcomes in all facets of practical and technical project work.
  • Identifies practical opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Interface with clients to understand their needs and provide technical solutions.
  • Prepare and present technical proposals and reports.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting during and after project implementation.
  • Independently respond and resolve general technical issues related to production and market problems.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field; Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in electrical design, with a strong focus on switchgear and control systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while developing accurate and detailed electrical control designs.
  • Expert in switchgear design, electrical protection systems, and control panel design.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP).
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Capable of taking individual ownership of projects and working in a team environment.
  • Proven project management experience with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, while responding appropriately within the fast-moving business environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Display a proactive flexible approach to working within a team environment.

PREDERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in Project Management (PMP) or similar.
  • Experience with advanced switchgear technologies and smart grid systems.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies such as digital substations and IoT applications.
