What is a senior recruiter?

A senior recruiter provides staffing solutions for businesses. As a senior recruiter, you will most likely work in a human resources (HR) department, developing recruitment strategies and assisting with the hiring process. You may also work independently or for a private recruiting agency, seeking to place qualified candidates with companies in need of those skills. You often work with little supervision, but the job still requires frequent communication with other members of the HR team and with clients. Your career will benefit from skills like negotiation, an intuition for recognizing talent, and experience in the HR field. Most senior recruiters have a bachelor’s degree, and many pursue qualifications like a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certificate.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Recruiter, you need expertise in talent acquisition, interviewing, and candidate assessment, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), HR databases, and sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and a proactive approach help build strong relationships with both candidates and hiring managers. These skills ensure effective recruitment processes, high-quality hires, and alignment with organizational goals.

What are some common challenges senior recruiters face when sourcing candidates for specialized roles?

Senior Recruiters often encounter challenges when sourcing candidates for highly specialized or technical positions, as the talent pool can be limited and passive candidates may not be actively seeking new opportunities. Building strong relationships with industry professionals, maintaining an up-to-date network, and leveraging advanced sourcing tools are key strategies to overcome these hurdles. Additionally, Senior Recruiters frequently collaborate with hiring managers to refine job requirements and adjust search strategies, ensuring alignment with both the organization's needs and market realities.

Coast

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Job description

What is Coast

Coast is re-imagining the trillion-dollar U.S. B2B card payments infrastructure, with a focus on the country's 500,000 commercial fleets, 40 million commercial vehicles, and many millions of commercial drivers. The incumbent technologies that cater to these customers are decades old, and businesses with fleets increasingly demand modern digital experiences and transparent financial services products. Coast's mission is to deliver this at a transformational scale, beginning with the Coast Fleet and Fuel Card built on a cutting-edge spend management platform.

Reporting to the Head of Talent, the Senior Recruiter (GTM) will be directly responsible for building out Coast's core team in the company's growth stage.  The successful candidate will also contribute to the ongoing improvement and implementation of Coast's recruiting motions in partnership with the team. Our ideal candidate is a detail-oriented self-starter who can dig into the details, think creatively of solutions, and advocate for change when needed.

About the Role

We're growing our GTM (Go-To-Market) function across Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Operations. You'll partner closely with our talented senior leadership team to own hiring end to end and help build the team that powers our next chapter. While GTM is your primary focus, you may have the chance to support hiring across other teams over time. This is a role for someone who loves finding exceptional people, delivering a standout candidate experience, and helping fuel our growth. We're Series B and moving fast - this is a chance to make a real mark as we scale.

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in our SLC office.

What You'll Do
  • Own the full recruiting pipeline, from sourcing to close, filling critical GTM roles that map directly to our growth roadmap
    • Drive toward results while keeping candidate experience front and center
    • Partner closely with hiring leaders as a true consultative partner
  • Sourcing
    • Lead creative sourcing strategy and delivery
    • Bring energy to employer branding initiatives
    • Track and deliver top-of-funnel metrics, with a close eye on response rates
  • Interviewing
    • Partner with the business to build job descriptions and shape interviews
    • Report, monitor, and leverage pipeline metrics to optimize efficiency
    • Work across recruiting tools: Greenhouse, LinkedIn, Gem, and BrightHire
  • Closing
    • Leverage the skill and art of closing GTM candidates
    • Communicate our mission, problem space, and values with clarity
    • Understand candidate motivations, resulting in quality hires with aligned goals
  • Operations / Metrics
    • Build scalable workflows and systems that drive real impact
    • Use AI to streamline your work
    • Stay metrics-driven, letting data guide your decisions
What Success Looks Like

In your first year, you'll be successful if you:

  1. Build a strong, diverse pipeline and hire quality talent across our GTM teams
  2. Step in to support other hiring teams as needed (e.g., Business, Engineering, and Product)
  3. Become a trusted partner to senior leaders, actively shaping hiring strategy rather than just filling roles
  4. Deliver a candidate experience people rave about, whether or not they get the offer
  5. Use data to surface bottlenecks early and steadily sharpen the process
  6. Find smart efficiencies through better tooling, AI, and cleaner workflows
Requirements

What You'll Bring

  • 4+ years of recruiting experience, with a strong focus on building GTM teams
  • Proven track record of finding and hiring top talent, balancing speed and quality
  • AI-native mindset: you already use AI tools in your daily work and you're excited to push further with tools like Claude and BrightHire
  • Strong analytical instincts: comfortable pulling metrics, spotting trends, and keeping hiring managers informed on progress, bottlenecks, and wins
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a knack for building trusted relationships with stakeholders and connecting with candidates
  • A bias toward action - you don't wait for someone to hand you a playbook
  • Comfortable in ambiguity: you build structure without losing momentum
  • Salt Lake City, Utah based, able to be in-office 3-4 days per week

Bonus Points

  • A mix of corporate and agency recruiting experience
  • Familiarity with tools like Greenhouse, LinkedIn, and Gem
  • Experience in fintech, payments, B2B SaaS, or financial services
Compensation and Benefits

Our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry, and are one part of our total compensation package that also includes benefits, signing bonus, and equity. Pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Coast employees. We expect the majority of candidates who are offered roles at Coast to fall healthily within the range based on these factors.

Salary range: SLC, UT $115,000 - $130,000

Equity Grant: Meaningful potential upside given Coast's early-stage trajectory

Benefits Overview:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • Flexible paid time off (vacation, personal well being, paid holidays)
  • Tools to help manage your financial wellness, including webinars, access to an equity tax advisory service, and company-sponsored 401(k)
