Job description

Overview

A growing manufacturing operation is seeking an experienced R&D Machinist to support the introduction of new products from prototype through production launch. This role is heavily involved in precision machining, tooling development, troubleshooting, and production support within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.


The ideal candidate is a hands-on machinist with strong tool and die experience who can build, modify, maintain, and troubleshoot tooling used in metal fabrication and production processes. This position works closely with engineering, production leadership, and quality teams to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Build, modify, repair, and maintain tooling, dies, fixtures, punches, and gauges used in manufacturing operations
  • Support prototype development and transition into full-scale production
  • Operate manual and CNC machining equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and wire EDM equipment
  • Troubleshoot tooling and production-related issues to minimize downtime and improve efficiency
  • Perform precision machining, fitting, drilling, grinding, and assembly work
  • Read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, and engineering specifications
  • Assist with tooling changeovers and setup adjustments
  • Inspect finished tooling and machined components to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality standards are met
  • Work closely with engineering and production teams on process improvements and manufacturability
  • Maintain safe work practices and support a clean, organized work environment


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of machinist, tool & die, or precision machining experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience with manual machining equipment and CNC machining
  • Experience with wire EDM and precision tooling fabrication preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and precision measurements
  • Skilled using inspection equipment including calipers, micrometers, indicators, and gauges
  • Experience troubleshooting tooling, dies, fixtures, and production equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and support multiple projects simultaneously
