Job description

Project Architect

Salina, Kansas - Full Time - In-office

Position Description & Growth Opportunity

More than a Project Architect position, this is a defined succession opportunity.

You'll work directly with senior Project Managers, learning their clients, projects, and approach, with the goal of transitioning into their role as they retire over the next five years. For the right person, this is a clear path to Project Manager, firm leadership, and potentially Principal, in the future.

Jones Gillam Renz Architects (JGR) is seeking a motivated and collaborative Project Architect to join our Salina office. From day one, you'll work alongside our Senior Project Managers, becoming an integral part of their project teams while building relationships with their clients and consultants.

This isn't a position where you'll wait years for opportunity to find you. Our intent is to mentor and prepare you to assume leadership of an established client base as part of our long-term succession plan. You'll gain hands-on experience in every aspect of project management - from design and technical coordination to client relationships, budgeting, team leadership, and project delivery.

We're looking for someone who wants more than producing drawings. We want someone who is excited to build lasting client relationships, lead projects, mentor others, and help shape the future of JGR. For an individual who demonstrates initiative, leadership, sound judgment, and a commitment to exceptional client service, this position offers a genuine pathway to Project Manager and, ultimately, the opportunity to become a Principal in the firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and community partners.
  • Lead projects through all phases of design and construction, ensuring quality, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with senior Project Managers while preparing to assume leadership of an established client portfolio.
  • Coordinate and mentor project teams, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
  • Provide technical guidance and quality control for project documents and detailing.
  • Lead project meetings, presentations, and coordination with clients, consultants, contractors, and public agencies.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Perform construction administration, including site observations, submittal reviews, RFIs, and coordination during construction.
  • Contribute to business development by strengthening existing client relationships and identifying new opportunities.
  • Help shape the future of JGR through leadership, mentorship, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Architecture
  • Architectural License (preferred) or active pursuit of licensure with a clear commitment to becoming a licensed architect.
  • 5+ years of experience working in an architectural firm (after earning Architecture Degree).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam (or other PDF editing software)
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
Other Skills and Characteristics We are looking for:
  • Demonstrates initiative and takes ownership of projects
  • Sound judgement and strong decision-making abilities
  • Dependable, accountable, and follows through on commitments
