Job Description
Summary/Objective
The Director of Procurement is responsible for leading sourcing, supplier management, purchasing strategy, and procurement process improvement across Coastal Waste & Recycling. This role supports operational uptime by ensuring Coastal receives the right parts, equipment, materials, and services at the right price and at the right time. This is a hands-on leadership role. The Director of Procurement must be able to develop procurement strategy while also executing sourcing initiatives, negotiating with vendors, improving purchasing workflows, and partnering closely with Operations, Fleet, Maintenance, and Finance to control costs and support the field.

  • Develop and execute procurement and sourcing strategies for fleet parts, equipment, services, operational supplies, and maintenance-related materials.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, contracts, and service expectations with national, regional, and local suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate vendors, standardize purchasing practices, and improve buying power across the organization.
  • Build and manage strong supplier relationships that support operational uptime, cost control, product availability, delivery performance, and quality.
  • Oversee day-to-day purchasing activities to ensure field teams receive parts, materials, and services quickly and efficiently.
  • Partner with Operations, Fleet, and Maintenance teams to support correct parts sourcing, inventory management, vendor selection, and urgent operational needs.
  • Analyze purchasing data and spend trends to identify savings opportunities, reduce total cost of ownership, and support operational decision-making.
  • Implement and maintain spend visibility, purchasing reporting, supplier scorecards, and procurement metrics.
  • Develop procurement policies, approval processes, purchasing standards, and vendor onboarding practices.
  • Support procurement system improvements, including Coupa or similar procurement platforms, to create consistent and efficient workflows.
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate spend tracking, budgeting support, invoice alignment, and vendor compliance.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on supplier performance, cost savings, procurement risks, process gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of procurement best practices, waste industry supplier markets, heavy-duty equipment parts, and fleet-intensive operational needs.

  • Hands-On Execution: Willingness and ability to personally manage sourcing, vendor issues, purchasing escalations, and process improvements.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of spend analysis, cost control, budgeting support, and total cost of ownership.
  • Operational Partnership: Ability to work closely with Operations, Fleet, Maintenance, and Finance to solve field needs quickly and practically.
  • Negotiation: Strong contract negotiation, vendor management, and supplier performance management skills.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain procurement decisions and recommendations to operational and executive leaders.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify root causes, resolve purchasing issues, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage procurement initiatives, vendor transitions, system improvements, and standardization efforts from start to finish.
  • Process Improvement: Ability to build structure, improve workflows, document standards, and create scalable procurement practices.

Work environment and hours
  • Worksite location as assigned
  • 5 days a week
  • This is a fully onsite role with traditional office hours defined as 8am to 5pm.
  • Start and end times as well as total hours per week will vary depending on operational needs

Required education and experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Equivalent experience defined as significant procurement, supply chain, fleet, operations, or industrial purchasing experience with demonstrated ability to manage supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and terms, analyze spend, and improve purchasing processes.
  • 10+ years of procurement, sourcing, supply chain, purchasing, fleet parts, industrial MRO, or related experience.
  • Experience sourcing heavy equipment, fleet parts, industrial MRO, services, operational supplies, or other fleet-intensive purchasing categories.
  • Strong contract negotiation, supplier management, cost analysis, and vendor performance experience.
  • Experience working with procurement systems such as Coupa, SAP, or similar purchasing platforms.

Preferred education and experience
  • 2+ years of experience in the waste, environmental services, transportation, logistics, construction, heavy equipment, or fleet-intensive industry.
  • Experience sourcing refuse truck parts, heavy-duty chassis components, hydraulic systems, fleet service, fuel, lubricants, consumables, and MRO supplies.
  • Experience building procurement processes in a growing, multi-location organization.
  • Experience with TRUX, RTA, Coupa, SAP, Power BI, or similar systems.
  • Bilingual Spanish or Creole.
