What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope: Hargrove is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join our growing team supporting clients across the chemical, petrochemical, refining, specialty chemical, and industrial manufacturing industries.
In this role, you'll lead process engineering efforts on capital projects and serve as a technical leader! Responsible for developing safe, practical, and innovative process solutions while collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams and client stakeholders.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Lead process engineering activities for capital projects within chemical, petrochemical, refining, specialty chemical, and industrial manufacturing facilities.
  • Serve as Process Lead on large capital projects and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Develop and review key process deliverables including:
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Material & Energy Balances
    • Equipment Datasheets
    • Process Design Basis Documents
    • Hydraulic Calculations
    • Process Narratives
    • Relief System Evaluations
    • Operating and Design Philosophies
  • Develop process designs focused on safety, operability, reliability, maintainability, and cost-effective execution.
  • Establish project design criteria while ensuring compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Lead process hazard evaluations and integrate process safety principles into every phase of design.
  • Support front-end loading activities, feasibility studies, conceptual design packages, and cost estimating efforts.
  • Develop equipment specifications and bid packages for major process equipment and systems.
  • Perform and review advanced process engineering calculations and simulations.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and controls teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Support client presentations, project reviews, proposal development, and business development activities.
  • Participate in field investigations, commissioning efforts, troubleshooting activities, and plant startup support.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across project teams.

Ideal Background
Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
Experience: This position requires 6+ years of process engineering experience supporting chemical, petrochemical, refining, specialty chemical, industrial manufacturing, or similar process industries. Experience leading process engineering efforts on capital projects from concept through execution.

  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering estimates, schedules, and staffing plans.
  • Knowledge of process safety principles and their application to project development.
  • Ability to review process deliverables for technical accuracy and quality.
  • Experience working with process simulation software, including:
    • Aspen HYSYS
    • Aspen Plus
    • PRO/II
    • CHEMCAD
    • ProMax
    • DYNSIM
  • Experience with hydraulic simulation software such as:
    • AFT Fathom
    • AFT Arrow
    • PIPE-FLO
    • PIPEPHASE
  • Strong understanding of equipment, instrumentation, piping systems, and process operations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.
  • Willing to travel as required for pre-bid meetings, client presentations and project site meetings.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed, and able to provide interoffice execution leadership and support.
