Base Pay Range: $120,055 - $‎156,559

Position Summary

Banner Engineering has a comprehensive and advanced printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) operation that includes surface mount technology (SMT), chip-on-board (COB), automated and manual through-hole soldering, depanelization, and electrical test. We are currently looking for a Senior PCBA Process Engineer to serve as a technical leader across these operations in our Brooklyn Park, MN facility. This position will solve manufacturing and materials issues, establish technical standards, strengthen new product release capability, guide major equipment and technology decisions, and lead strategic initiatives that improve quality, capacity, cost, and delivery.

This position reports to the Director of Engineering.

According to the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), this position is classified as:

What You’ll Be Doing

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior technical authority for PCBA manufacturing, guiding engineering best practices across SMT, COB, through-hole assembly, soldering, depaneling, inspection, test, material handling, and related integrated systems. 
  • Lead resolution of the most complex and broadest-reaching PCBA technical problems involving recurring defects, systemic yield loss, equipment limitations, supplier or material variation, and design-for-manufacturability concerns. 
  • Establish technical strategies, standards, process windows, design rules, control methods, and best practices that improve consistency across products, shifts, and manufacturing sites. 
  • Provide senior technical leadership for new product and process introduction including DFM, capability assessment, and validation strategy for production ramp. 
  • Lead technology-roadmap development initiatives and evaluate future manufacturing capabilities, automation, materials, and equipment investments. 
  • Use manufacturing data, statistical analysis, experiments, and technical judgment to identify systemic risks and guide high-value improvement priorities. 
  • Lead PCBA technical reviews and clearly communicate recommendations, risks, alternatives, and expected business impact. 
  • Execute capital investment projects through effective proposal, evaluation, supplier selection, acceptance testing, installation, qualification, and sustained production performance. 
  • Lead strategic continuous improvement programs that deliver measurable gains in yield, throughput, equipment utilization, labor efficiency, quality, and total manufacturing cost. 
  • Mentor and develop process engineers and technicians by reviewing technical work, teaching technical and process skills, and strengthening process ownership and project execution. 
  • Represent PCBA process engineering in supplier, customer, quality-system, and technical-audit discussions.

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field

Required Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • 10+ years of experience in PCBA manufacturing and SMT process engineering. 
  • Expert understanding of PCB assembly processes, equipment, materials, controls, test methods, electronic components, and failure mechanisms. 
  • Advanced project leadership, mentoring, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration skills. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in multiple PCBA processes and a record of leading major technical projects with measurable business impacts. 
  • Experience establishing manufacturing standards, process qualifications, control strategies, and long-term sustainment methods. 
  • Proven experience driving improvements using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. 
  • History of leading capital equipment projects from concept to business case, qualification and production release. 
  • Advanced ability to diagnose complex process interactions and solve systemic manufacturing problems using root cause analysis, SPC, experiments, technical literature, and hands-on investigation. 
  • Ability to balance urgent manufacturing needs with long-term technology and capability objectives. 

Preferred Skills and Abilities 

  • Master’s degree in engineering, materials science, manufacturing systems, or a related technical field. 
  • SMTA Certified Process Engineer, IPC certification, Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt, or additional recognized subject-matter certifications. 
  • Experience with microelectronics and chip-on-board (COB) manufacturing processes including die attach, wire bonding, encapsulation, process controls, and defect analysis. 
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing sites, product or process transfers, and standardization across locations. 
  • Experience in an ISO 9001 environment and with supplier quality, customer audits, or regulated manufacturing requirements.
