Job Description:

The Investment Solutions Expense Management team provides timely, accurate and actionable financial insights to support effective decision-making across Investment Solutions, Canadian Finance, Canadian Operations and other key partner teams. The team is accountable for expense planning and forecasting, financial reporting, cost transparency, governance and analysis that helps leaders understand business performance and manage resources effectively.

As Senior Financial Analyst, Finance, Investment Solutions, you will play a key role in delivering expense analytics, forecasting support, business planning, financial reporting and strategic analysis. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and cross-functional partners, challenge business results, identify cost drivers and savings opportunities, strengthen financial controls and use data and technology to deliver clear, actionable insights. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical judgment, curiosity, attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.

What will you do?

  • Deliver clear financial analysis and reporting that explains expense results, key cost drivers, emerging trends and business implications.

  • Lead expense components of the annual planning, forecasting and budget processes, including coordination with business partners and support for management review.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly expense reporting, analysis and commentary for senior leaders and key stakeholders.

  • Develop expense forecasts for management areas, key initiatives and project spend, including analysis of seasonality, run-rate trends and forecast risks or opportunities.

  • Partner with Investment Solutions business areas to manage project expenses, monitor productivity, assess savings opportunities and support effective resource decisions.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with finance, business and operational partners to understand the underlying business model and provide practical expense insights.

  • Translate complex financial information into clear insights and recommendations for finance and non-finance audiences.

  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities by applying a strong understanding of systems, data flows, controls and recurring reporting processes.

  • Support audit, governance and control requirements through accurate reporting, analysis and documentation.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Professional accounting designation with a related university degree.

  • 5-7 years of accounting or finance experience, including experience with expense management, planning, forecasting or financial analysis.

  • Strong financial analysis, forecasting, modelling and business-partnering skills, with the ability to connect data, business drivers and strategic priorities.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail and sound judgment.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience building complex reporting models; experience with Hyperion or other planning and reporting tools is an asset.

  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly.

  • Demonstrated passion for improving processes, strengthening controls and driving sustainable change.

  • Collaborative mindset and the ability to build trusted relationships with internal partners and senior stakeholders.

  • Curiosity, initiative and comfort using technology to simplify work, improve accuracy and create more capacity for insight.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of individual investment products, asset management, distribution channels or insurance products.

  • Expense, cost centre management, allocation methodology or business planning experience.

  • Tableau, SAS EG, Power BI or other reporting and analytics tool experience.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
