THE CLIENT

This client is a mid-sized multidisciplinary MEP+ firm.


OVERVIEW

Tasked with planning, analysis, design, and implementation of complex electrical power systems to support mission-critical facilities, utility-scale infrastructure, industrial facilities, and large commercial developments. This position specializes in medium and high-voltage power distribution, power generation, protection and controls, substations, and power system studies.


The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer, experienced designing and coordinating electrical infrastructure for data centers, utility interconnections, power plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations, and other mission-critical facilities. The engineer collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams while providing technical leadership throughout all phases of project delivery.

 

ROLE/ RESPONSIBILITIES

Power Generation & Mission Critical Infrastructure

Design:

· electrical infrastructure to support mission-critical facilities, hyperscale data centers, industrial facilities, and utility-scale projects

· medium and high-voltage power generation systems, using reciprocating engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, renewable energy sources, and hybrid generation systems

· coordinate large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including utility-scale installations exceeding 10 MW

· generator paralleling switchgear, synchronization systems, and associated control systems

· specify medium-voltage UPS systems and DC power distribution systems

· develop reliable power architectures for continuous-operation facilities


Medium-Voltage Power System Design

· low, medium, and high-voltage electrical distribution systems

· one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, grounding plans, equipment layouts, cable routing, and power distribution drawings

· Specify and coordinate: Medium-voltage switchgear, Switchboards, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Transformers, Generators, UPS systems, Protective relays, DC power equipment

· load calculations and equipment sizing


Protection & Controls

Design/ Develop:

· protection schemes for medium and high-voltage systems

· relay protection, relay coordination, and protective device settings

· AC/DC control schematics and wiring diagrams

· generator paralleling control systems

· PLC and automation control philosophies

· coordinate SCADA integration and utility interconnection requirements

· Support commissioning and startup activities


Power System Studies

Engineering studies: Short Circuit, Protective Device Coordination, Arc Flash, Load Flow, Voltage Drop, Motor Starting, Harmonic Analysis, Dynamic System Modeling, and Power Quality Studies

Project Leadership

· Lead and engineer complex electrical power projects from planning through construction

· Prepare engineering reports, calculations, technical specifications, and construction documents

· Perform site investigations and existing system evaluations

· Provide construction administration including: RFIs, Shop drawing reviews, Site observations

· Punch list support, Mentor junior engineers and designers.


Preferred Project Experience

· Experience with one or more of the following: Utility-Scale Power Generation (100 MW+)

· Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) · Generator Paralleling Systems · Gas Turbine Facilities

· Reciprocating Engine Generation · Fuel Cell Systems · Microgrids · Substations · Hyperscale Data Centers · Industrial Manufacturing Facilities · Hospitals · Wastewater Treatment Facilities


Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar

· Professional Engineer (PE) license (strongly preferred)

· 10+ years of experience designing electrical power systems
