Job description

Power Electronics Hardware Engineer, Level 2

NPI Engineering โ€“ Power Electronics Hybrid Full-time Valid until 30/09/2026

Position purpose

The Power Electronics Hardware Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager. This position works under moderate supervision while maintaining a high level of technical ownership and independent work.

The position focuses on the design, development, validation, and integration of power electronic hardware for high-power converters and inverters. The engineer supports product development from concept definition through prototype validation and industrialization, working at the intersection of power electronics, system engineering, control systems, and manufacturing.

Essential Functions
  • Design power electronic circuits for medium- and high-power converter/inverter applications.
  • Develop power stages utilizing IGBT, SiC MOSFET, and diode-based topologies.
  • Select and specify power electronic components, including semiconductors, capacitors, magnetic components, sensors, and protection devices.
  • Design and verify DC-link, gate-drive, current-sensing, voltage-sensing, and protection circuits.
  • Support the definition and evaluation of converter/inverter topologies for new company products.
  • Perform thermal design and analysis of power electronic assemblies.
  • Create and review hardware requirements, schematics, design calculations, and technical documentation.
  • Support PCB design activities, including layout reviews focused on EMC, power integrity, and thermal performance.
  • Execute hardware validation, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis during prototype development.
  • Participate in laboratory testing, commissioning, and field-support activities.
  • Collaborate with system, control, software, and test engineering teams to optimize performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Other Functions
  • Contribute to design standards, engineering processes, and best practices.
  • Participate in technology evaluation and benchmarking activities.
  • Contribute to intellectual property creation, including patents and technical disclosures.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Solid understanding of power electronics and converter/inverter hardware design.
  • Knowledge of power semiconductor technologies, including IGBT and SiC devices.
  • Experience with schematic capture and hardware design tools.
  • Understanding of DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion principles.
  • Knowledge of gate-drive design, protection circuits, and current/voltage measurement techniques.
  • Familiarity with thermal management concepts and power-loss calculations.
  • Understanding of EMI/EMC design principles for power electronic systems.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, differential probes, and electronic loads.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot hardware issues in laboratory and prototype environments.
Education or Formal Training
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Power Electronics or a related discipline is desirable.
Experience Required
  • More than 2 years of experience in power electronics hardware development, converter/inverter design, or a related field.
  • Experience with laboratory validation and prototype testing of power electronic systems.
  • Experience with industrial, renewable-energy, UPS, motor-drive, or grid-connected power-conversion products is an advantage.
