Role Description

The Senior Physicist will serve as a key hands-on contributor and technical expert on all innovation and core product technology initiatives to help ensure new product and product enhancements are leading the industry. With exceptional abstract problem-solving abilities, scientific creativity and a rigorous attention to detail, this position will focus on developing, implementing, evaluating, and applying novel CT image acquisition and analysis techniques for -CT scanners with the ability to present complex scientific approaches and results to an interdisciplinary audience as well as to maintain clear and concise documentation. The Senior Physicist engage in work on CT scanners to create production ready codes in the fields of image processing and computer vision.

Key duties and responsibilities, other duties may be assigned:

  • Display an absolute understanding of factors that affect CT image quality and data acquisition time
  • Set up and lead (multi-site) projects and interface with suppliers and manufacturers
  • Implement, improve, and use novel sophisticated image processing and image analysis programs in a numerically efficient and robust way, emphasis on diagnostic CT applications
  • Answer Physicist questions from customer sites when applicable.
  • Utilize project management and leadership skills to develop and establish program plans and estimates.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of CT image generation methods, including data corrections, image reconstruction, and image processing
  • Manage the integration of new Computed Tomography (CT) scanner systems; Collect and analyze data; Write software for data analysis; Design experiments for testing algorithms and features; Document test results
  • Deliver technical reports and prototype code
  • Routinely present reports to engineering staff and management
  • Prototype advanced image processing algorithms around image reconstruction
  • Tune image processing algorithms to enhance image quality
  • Design suitable solutions to complex problems with assistance from senior engineers
  • Responsible for the design and analysis of novel imaging platforms and applications

Education & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or similar discipline is required.
  • 5+ years of direct industry experience in the design, development, and implementation of commercial CT scanners.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with CT image generation methods, including data corrections, image reconstruction, and advanced image processing.
  • Strong background in CT physics, associated biophysics, and Digital Signal/Image Processing.
  • Proven ability to transition algorithms from prototype (MATLAB/Python) to production-ready implementation (C/C++).
  • Excellent skills in evaluating and establishing new imaging approaches in a clinical environment.

Computer & Analytic Skills

  • Programming Experience in: C/C++, Python, and MATLAB. Experience with modern software development practices (version control e.g., Git, issue tracking) is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with diverse computer operating systems and programming environments (in particular experience with Linux, MATLAB and distributed high-performance computing)
  • Experience with data analysis
  • Able to provide and perform test protocols for new and existing image quality algorithms
  • Experience developing software-based medical products
  • Able to read existing codes and write documentations
  • Familiarity with medical device imaging test (FDA 510k) is a strong plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear
  • Must be able to sit and/or drive for long periods of time when travelling
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time (8-15 hours) for multiple days
  • Regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather)
  • Interaction with x-ray devices; for this reason strict safety and tracking programs are in place, requiring the utilization of dose monitoring equipment either full time or as necessitated by situation
  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
