Overview: The Senior Product Engineer is responsible for new and existing products and enhancements as assigned by the Engineering Manager. Utilizing the services of one or more staff engineers/designers, the Senior Product Engineer will complete product engineering, custom project execution and project management activities through completion of full manufacturing release.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical work across engineers, designers, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and other cross-functional stakeholders to drive technical decisions and project closure, regardless of reporting relationships while ensuring technical accuracy, integrity, and completeness of engineering deliverables.
    • Lead product enhancements, new product development, engineered-to-order (ETO) projects, and resolution of technical issues.
    • Assume ownership of assigned product lines.
    • Review, approve, and release engineering documentation, including drawings, calculations, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, manuals, assembly instructions, cut sheets, and related technical documentation.
    • Identify opportunities for product innovation, cost reduction, and performance improvements through customer feedback, engineering analysis, and market trends.
    • Continuously improve existing products through New Product Development (NPD), Engineering Change Request (ECR), and Engineering Change Notice (ECN) processes.
    • Configure existing "as-sold" products and systems to meet customer requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional engineering teams from concept through validation, manufacturing, and full production release while delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop and execute design verification and validation plans, such as DVP&R or an equivalent method, to demonstrate that designs meet functional and performance requirements before manufacturing release.
  • Analyze, develop, test, and manage new product development projects by defining product specifications, functional performance requirements, engineering labor estimates, production costs, and project milestones.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for product standardization, platform development, component reuse, and reduction of unnecessary customization to improve product quality, manufacturability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Select and specify components, assemblies, and materials based on engineering requirements, design analysis, manufacturability, and supplier capabilities.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, finite element analysis (FEA), and compliance with applicable ASME and PED design standards.
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, design practices, reusable calculations, and standard work to improve engineering consistency and accelerate future product development.
  • Design products using SolidWorks while ensuring compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, and customer specifications.
  • Improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost through value engineering, design optimization, testing, FMEA, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure engineering releases are complete and controlled by maintaining accurate item masters, BOMs, revisions, ECRs, ECNs, and related documentation within the ERP/PLM system.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects by monitoring schedules, controlling labor and material costs, reporting project status, and coordinating activities with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, Project Management, Field Service, suppliers, and customers to provide technical expertise, resolve engineering issues, and support successful product launches.
  • Support manufacturing by applying knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication, assembly, instrumentation, and P&IDs to develop production-ready equipment and resolve manufacturing challenges.
