GENERAL PURPOSE:


Under general supervision, fabricates high quality sheet metal signs effectively and efficiently. Coordinates delegates and provides oversight on sheet metal projects. This is a part-time position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, coordinates, and delegates sheet metal projects to subordinates to ensure department meets expectations and deadlines
  • Reviews plans and diagrams to ensure accuracy of cutting of materials to create sign parts
  • Plans, prepares and uses materials to be cut in a matter to keep waste to a minimum
  • Cuts materials consistent with specifications of job order
  • Operates metal cutting equipment to accurately cut materials to job specifications
  • Operates welding equipment to weld sign parts together
  • Implements and maintains quality control and safety during material handling, cutting, and welding
  • Sands, grinds, polishes, and cleans cut materials
  • Layout materials to be used for skinning/covering sign structure
  • Bends and shapes sign parts by hand or by using brakes according to job specifications
  • Drills, rivets, screws, or glues sign parts together
  • Performs pre-painting and wiring preparation by cleaning and labeling of parts
  • Touches up paint and performs detail of signs
  • Trains sheet metal helpers and apprentices according to YESCO apprenticeship requirements


MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that sheet metal department has adequate parts and materials to complete projects
  • Oversees preventative maintenance and minor repairs to sheet metal department equipment
  • Moves materials and cut parts around the YESCO facility
  • Maintains a safe working environment
  • Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned


NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS:

  • Interacts daily with employees and supervisors at the YESCO facilities to discuss sheet metal department projects


TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Eight or more years of demonstrated experience in sheet metal fabrication; completion of the YESCO or other sheet metal apprenticeship program preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to read, interpret and apply specification documents ,government coding document information, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to apply geometric and algebraic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to move materials, equipment, cutting and completed projects
  • Ability to effectively communicate and to supervise employees
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to meet production goals while ensuring the quality of the product
  • Must possess a 3G Welding certificate
