The Sr. Package Designer is a dynamic, creative thinker and doer who develops Benefit DNA-driven three-dimensional product & package design, merchandise, and PR press sends. A storyteller at heart, the Senior Graphic Designer creates the first touchpoint for our product worlds. They create a visual language for product franchises and subsequent press materials and merch. Executes designs from concept to execution, to create all global product and packaging designs for Benefit Cosmetics. Supports business goals by establishing high-quality visual solutions that ignite joy and enhance the consumer experience. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams, to ensure excellence in execution and reports into the Art Director, Packaging Design & Brand Systems. This is an advanced graphic design role that requires creative innovation and significant autonomy.
What You'll Do:
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with creative leaders to create engaging, thoughtful packaging design solutions for all product lines and packages.
  • Brainstorm creative concepts and conduct design research for the theming of projects.
  • Ideate development of entire product franchises.
  • Develop and present digital mockups and renderings, illustrating concepts.
  • Update design guidelines, create product style guides, and exude Benefit DNA.
  • Implement branding & brand DNA through design across all product packaging, sends, and merch.
  • Create mood boards, color palettes, layouts, and illustrations for packaging artwork.
  • Manage timelines from project concept to completion, working cross functionally with Legal, Copy, Marketing and other key players, to ensure deadlines are met, based on business needs.
  • Navigate Accolade (project management software) and Proof HQ (internal packaging review software), to manage and route packaging through required channels.
  • Ensure electronic files are properly prepared for output, including photo retouching, color correcting, and layer separations.
  • Follow through on proofing stage of print projects by providing match prints, color targets, color approvals, and clear directions to suppliers, indicating any adjustments needed.
  • Research and stay current on the latest sustainability innovations, competitors, and packaging trends of the global beauty industry, to create the most innovative and effective designs possible.
  • Maintain open communication and constant interaction with cross-functional teams, to achieve the highest level of quality for each project, while understanding and having the ability to speak to concepts as well as to limitations due to timing, cost, and constraints.
  • Attend high-level meetings, when necessary, to be aware of current and upcoming status of products and overall growth strategies for the company.
  • Guide and train new hires and colleagues, as needed

Qualifications:
  • 6-8 years of related design experience, experience in packaging a plus
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of concepting, packaging design, creating physical mock-ups, and print production with a strong eye for detail and color consistency
  • Advanced knowledge of industry standard programs
  • Proficient in using project management programs
  • Proven experience working with marketing and other cross-functional teams
  • Experience in innovative and exciting new eco-friendly & sustainable packaging solutions
  • Proven experience working with in-house packaging engineers and understanding of primary component development
  • Advanced knowledge of packaging materials and printing/finishing options

Schedule:
  • Hybrid - requires weekly presence at a Benefit Office

The target salary range for this position is $90,000-$138,000 annually. The actual salary offered is based on market location and will depend on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, years of relevant experience; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job. This position is eligible to earn an annual bonus. This position is also eligible for the following benefits, including but not limited to: comprehensive health, dental and vision plans; a 401(k) plan with employer matching, various paid time off programs; employee discounts/perks; life insurance; disability insurance; flexible spending accounts.
