What is a senior motorsports engineer?

Senior Motorsports Engineers are experienced professionals who design, develop, and optimize race vehicles and their components to achieve peak performance in motorsport competitions. They lead technical teams, analyze data from races, and implement engineering solutions to improve speed, reliability, and safety. Their work often involves collaboration with drivers, mechanics, and other engineers to ensure competitive advantage. In addition to technical expertise, they also manage projects and mentor junior engineers within motorsports teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior motorsports engineer?

To thrive as a Senior Motorsports Engineer, you need advanced knowledge in mechanical or automotive engineering, experience in motorsports, and often a relevant engineering degree. Expertise in simulation software (like MATLAB, CATIA, or CFD tools), data acquisition systems, and familiarity with FIA regulations are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication help you excel in high-pressure, fast-paced environments. These skills and qualifications are critical for optimizing vehicle performance, ensuring safety, and achieving competitive success on the track.

What are some common challenges faced by senior motorsports engineers when working with cross-functional teams at racing events?

Senior Motorsports Engineers often collaborate closely with mechanics, drivers, data analysts, and other engineers during racing events. One common challenge is ensuring clear and efficient communication under tight time constraints, especially when rapid decision-making is required for car setup changes or troubleshooting. Balancing the technical demands of optimizing performance with practical considerations from the pit crew and drivers is essential. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong leadership, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.

Job description

Ford is advancing some of the most ambitious work in mobility, performance, and next-generation automotive innovation. To support specialized hiring across motorsports, performance automotive, high-performance engineering, and technical business functions, the talent team needs a senior sourcer who can uncover niche talent, assess fit quickly, and build strong pipelines in highly specialized markets. We're hiring a Senior Technical Sourcer – Motorsports & Performance Recruiting to do exactly that.

About the Role

This is not a traditional sourcing role. You'll operate as a creative talent detective, identifying and engaging specialized engineering, technical, manufacturing, business, and leadership talent across motorsports, performance automotive, aftermarket automotive, and high-performance engineering environments. The role requires strong sourcing instincts, sharp candidate assessment skills, and the ability to partner closely with recruiters, hiring managers, and business leaders to solve difficult searches.

What You'll Do

Specialized Talent Sourcing

  • Proactively source and engage passive talent across motorsports, performance automotive, aftermarket automotive, and high-performance engineering markets
  • Build pipelines of specialized talent, including engineers, technicians, program managers, business professionals, and leadership candidates
  • Use LinkedIn Recruiter, hireEZ, ATS/CRM platforms, referrals, market mapping, and industry networks to identify top talent

Candidate Assessment & Talent Advocacy

  • Screen resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and online portfolios to determine fit
  • Quickly assess whether a candidate should be advanced, nurtured, or passed on
  • Confidently advocate for top talent and provide clear recommendations to recruiters and stakeholders

Search Strategy & Market Intelligence

  • Participate in intake meetings, calibration sessions, and search strategy discussions
  • Bring creative sourcing ideas, market insights, and talent availability data to recruiting partners and business leaders
  • Conduct market mapping, competitor research, and talent intelligence across niche automotive and technical markets

Recruiter & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Partner closely with recruiters and hiring teams to understand role requirements and priority profiles
  • Support sourcing strategy, candidate calibration, and pipeline development
  • Provide consultative feedback on talent market realities, candidate quality, and search direction

ATS, CRM & Candidate Experience

  • Maintain accurate candidate information in ATS and CRM systems
  • Track pipeline activity, candidate status, and sourcing progress
  • Deliver an exceptional candidate experience and support employer branding efforts
What We Need to See
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5+ years of sourcing or recruiting experience
  • Proven success sourcing technical, engineering, manufacturing, or specialized automotive talent
  • Strong candidate assessment and talent advocacy skills
  • Experience using ATS, CRM platforms, LinkedIn Recruiter, and sourcing tools such as hireEZ
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Bonus Points
  • Experience sourcing for racing teams, performance vehicle manufacturers, motorsports suppliers, or aftermarket performance brands
  • Understanding of vehicle performance systems, racing operations, and automotive engineering disciplines
  • Existing network within the motorsports or performance automotive community
  • Ability to bring fresh sourcing ideas to difficult or niche searches
  • Comfort knowing when to pursue talent — and when not to
