Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Applied Intelligence -CEC Controls ( A Wood company) is currently recruiting for a Controls Engineer at our Warren Michigan location. The candidate must be able to work in a professional engineering team-based environment. Engineering teams are responsible for the design and integration of conveyor control systems for customer applications and processes. Duties may include and are not limited to PLC and HMI programming, network design, system commissioning, system support, internal/external training, and technical consultation. Areas of focus are conveyor controls.Responsibilities

  • Utilize client PLC/HMI/Diagnostic Libraries (AOIs, FBs, UDT, Faceplates, etc.) and modifying as required
  • Utilize client Quality Check Tools - used to validate standards are properly executed
  • Standards deployment including on time outputs of contract deliverables
  • Participate in Design Reviews and support customer meetings
  • Write and edit PLC programs including: I/O mapping, network diagnostics, conveyor control, routing and tracking, HMI and FIS fault messages and more
  • Experience with VFD/Motor tuning, torque proving and point to point operation is a plus
  • Field Debug of PLC programs, VFD parameter adjustment, HMI prove out and wiring
  • Execute work within budget, on time and with exceptional quality
  • Forecast time/resources to complete remaining work
  • Execute, supervise, and verify all work aligns to customer specifications and expectations
  • Apply special knowledge of automation, controls engineering, and robotics where applicable
  • Travel to customer sites as necessary for the betterment of team or to deliver optimal solutions
  • Able to self-check PLC programs, such as verify all I/O is used, step by step conveyor sequence is correct
Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Technical degree in a controls related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent)
  • Five years of applicable experience in an industrial environment that includes design, debug, startup, and standby of conveyor controls
  • Must have knowledge of multiple customer platforms
  • Experience must include complete knowledge of full project lifecycle
  • Experience with multiple conveyor types including: Skid, Skillet, Pallet, Friction Drive, EMS ++
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%
  • Willing to work various shifts and O.T. during start up and debug phase
  • Logical thinker & problem solver
  • Organized & detail oriented and self-motivated with "can do" mindset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
