Job description

Mine Engineer


Seeking an experienced Senior Mine Engineer to provide technical leadership and operational support across mining projects. This role combines mine planning, contractor management, and field execution to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective outcomes.


Position works in a combination of office-based engineering and field environments, with regular exposure to active mining and construction operations. Requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and a proactive, independent, hands-on approach.


Key Responsibilities Include:


Safety & Compliance
โ€ขPromote strong safety culture, ensure compliance with all HSE regulations and company standards
โ€ขOversee contractor safety practices, including field risk management and hazard controls
โ€ขConduct inspections, audits, and incident investigations
โ€ขEnsure environmental controls (dust, drainage, spill prevention) are maintained


Technical Engineering & Mine Planning
โ€ขLead mine design, modeling, and sequencing using Maptek Vulcan
โ€ขDevelop short- and medium-term mine plans and production schedules
โ€ขPerform engineering analyses, trade-off studies, and cost evaluations
โ€ขPrepare technical reports and support permitting activities


Contractor Management & Operations
โ€ขManage daily performance of contractors and mining crews
โ€ขMonitor productivity, equipment utilization, and plan compliance
โ€ขIdentify inefficiencies and implement corrective actions
โ€ขValidate contractor reporting, timesheets, and cost submissions


Construction & Tailings Oversight
โ€ขSupervise tailings and earthworks construction activities
โ€ขEnsure compliance with engineering designs, specifications, and quality standards
โ€ขCoordinate survey, as-built verification, and construction records
โ€ขIdentify and resolve design or construction deviations


Cost Control & Reporting
โ€ขResponsible to track costs against budget and forecast
โ€ขMonitor KPIs, productivity, and contractor performance
โ€ขPrepare regular operational and cost reports
โ€ขIdentify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements

Qualifications & Experience


โ€ขBachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
โ€ข10+ years of mining experience
โ€ขProficiency in mine planning software (Vulcan preferred)
โ€ขExperience managing contractors and earthworks operations
โ€ขMineral sands experience desirable
โ€ขStrong technical and analytical capability

Incumbent must have a valid driver's license, (active for a minimum of 2 years) to be considered for this role.
