Senior Fabrication Machinist Field Engineer McKinley Climatic Lab, Eglin Air Force Base, FL MGTF Open Position Request Number: R-V-26 CLASSIFICATION: Senior Fabrication Machinist Field Engineer GRADE: Exempt; Regular, Full-Time LOCATION : McKinley Climatic Lab, Eglin Air Force Base - On Site ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The candidate works independently in nearly all cases with rare need to consult with higher level expertise or outside personnel on problems of exceptional difficulty. Accomplish work at a level of difficulty often associated with degreed engineers. Provides senior level expertise to resolve moderately to very challenging problems in the area of responsibility. Provide senior level support for fabrication of complex test fixtures to precise specifications including research and analyzing data to determine feasibility of a design or application. Fabricate innovative components to be installed, operated, and maintained in systems and fixtures for climatic simulations. Design, fabricate, and install controls, machines, valves, pumps and other pieces of equipment in support of the operations throughout the facility. Provide field engineering support to plan, design, fabricate, modify and install test support fixtures or special unique tooling and prototype equipment. GENERAL DUTIES: * Conduct engineering analysis needed to propose solutions, corrections, and improvements for operation and maintenance of plant equipment to include the interpretation of blueprints and piping schematics. * Perform field measurements on aircraft and other test items using precision instruments to engineer and fabricate tie-downs, restraints, and other specialty items. * Evaluate the effects of mechanical modifications on equipment performance. Understand structural loads, to calculate size requirements in the fabrication of hardware, and to understand. the principles of metallurgy. * Operate manual & CNC machine shop equipment and machine metals to close tolerances. * Conduct field measurements on plant equipment, aircraft, supporting structural equipment, and a variety of test items when engineering drawings or blueprints may not be available. * Troubleshoot, repair, install, align, and calibrate refrigeration compressors, air compressors, water pumps, chemical processing pumps, torque converters, chain drives, gear boxes, electric motors, electric valves, pneumatic valves and other such equipment or subsystems used in the operation and maintenance of plant equipment. * Conduct and interpret vibration analyses performed on rotating equipment. * Provide technical specifications for procurement of components and subsystems to meet task requirements. * Provide technical oversight of MCL Machine shop team. Job Requirements OTHER DUTIES: Other duties include the operation and maintenance of equipment, air make-up equipment, aircraft tie-down and exhaust ducting, and many other miscellaneous pieces of equipment throughout the facility. Perform sheet metal work and operating and maintaining all equipment. Conduct and interpret vibration analyses performed on rotating equipment. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : The candidate must have a detailed working knowledge of mechanical fabrication work as it relates to machining and industrial maintenance. This position requires 8 years of fabrication and/or machining experience. Associate Degree or Training certificates in engineering, machining, or industrial mechanics/millwright from trade schools, colleges, military, etc, or equivalent work experience is required. Must have experience in analysis, design, installation, operation, maintenance, evaluation/repair of mechanical devices, equipment, and systems. Candidate must have and maintain a forklift license. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. All selected candidates must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation and drug test as a condition of placement into this position. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or emergencies. Supports E-OMS operational objectives. Observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works in temperature extremes from -65 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Required to lift loads as heavy as 75 pounds. Works at heights up to 70 feet in elevation from ladders or high reach equipment.
