Industrial Millwright


Position Summary

The Industrial Millwright is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding industrial machinery and mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient plant operations. This position requires a highly skilled maintenance professional with experience in heavy industrial manufacturing who can diagnose complex mechanical issues, minimize equipment downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and capable of working independently while collaborating with production and maintenance teams.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial machinery and production equipment.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical failures to minimize downtime.
  • Install, align, and rebuild pumps, gearboxes, motors, conveyors, fans, compressors, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and other production equipment.
  • Perform precision shaft alignment, bearing installation, equipment leveling, and balancing using precision measuring instruments.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair equipment using welding and cutting equipment when required.
  • Perform rigging and equipment moves using overhead cranes, hoists, and lifting devices.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and plant improvement projects.
  • Complete work orders and accurately document maintenance activities using the company's maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Collaborate with electricians, operators, engineers, and supervisors to improve equipment reliability and plant performance.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, fall protection, and hot work procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school education in Industrial Maintenance or Millwright Technology preferred.
  • Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent industrial maintenance experience preferred.
  • Five or more years of industrial millwright experience in heavy manufacturing, steel manufacturing, pipe manufacturing, mining, or oil and gas.
  • Experience maintaining conveyors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, rotating equipment, and heavy production machinery.
  • Experience with precision alignment, vibration analysis, bearing installation, and equipment rebuilding.
  • Welding, cutting, and basic fabrication experience.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Experience working around overhead cranes and heavy lifting equipment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of industrial mechanical systems and rotating equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools including dial indicators, laser alignment systems, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and power transmission systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and safely move heavier components using appropriate lifting equipment.
  • Comfortable working around heavy machinery, overhead cranes, conveyors, and large-diameter pipe.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and industrial environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
