Powell is a manufacturer of switchgear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a MIG Welder at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility As a Senior Material Handler, you will be responsible for supporting the designated division or department through the handling, organization and record keeping of needed materials. Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:15pm-12:45am; OT as needed

As a Senior Material Handler, you will be responsible for supporting the designated division or department through the handling, organization and record keeping of needed materials. This includes inventory control, maintaining accurate equipment and supply records, and facilitating the stocking and restocking of material needs throughout a designated shop area. The following outlines the primary duties and responsibilities for this position.

Essential Responsibilities

•Responsible for the receipt, stocking and record keeping of new and existing materials.

•Communicate with staff and management team to identify material needs.

•Fill workstations with appropriate hardware and material, as identified.

•Maintain records of materials using a scanner or designated computer program.

•May utilize a forklift to transport, load and unload materials.

•Must learn and adhere to all safety policies and practices to avoid safety incidents.

•Must learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure consistent production.

•Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.

Minimum Qualifications

•High School Diploma or General Education Diploma preferred

•4 years of experience in a material handling role within a manufacturing environment

•Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing atmosphere.

•Ability to learn computer systems, databases and a variety of software programs.

•Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

•Ability to walk, stand and be physically active for extended periods of time.

•Fluent in English and capable of communicating with co-workers.

Preferred Qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (i.e., safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection at times, safety harnesses/ fall protection equipment as required).
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders (step ladders, "A" frame ladders continuously and / or scissor lifts while performing overhead work.
  • Working at heights usually no higher than 10 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders
  • Bending the body at the waist, the legs at the knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction
  • Continuous standing and walking
  • Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
  • Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
  • Frequent use of hand tools and power tools
