Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that mobilizes the community to care for those in need, activate Jewish life, safeguard the people of Israel, and combat antisemitism and hatred locally and in more than 70 countries worldwide. Each year, Federation engages thousands of donors and volunteers to generate tens of millions of dollars in philanthropic support, sustaining a network that delivers critical services, builds community, and responds to urgent challenges. Staff play a direct role in advancing this work across the Palm Beaches and beyond. 

Position Summary

The Communications Specialist supports the development and execution of strategic communications initiatives that advance Federation's mission, fundraising priorities, and organizational objectives. This role collaborates closely with Marketing, Philanthropy & External Relations (PER), and executive leadership to produce compelling donor-centric communications, storytelling, and content across print, digital, executive, and multimedia platforms. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research, fact check, write, copy edit, and proofread written communications for programs and events including print collateral, outreach communications, web/digital content, impact reports, leadership updates, and event remarks. 
  • Develop compelling and persuasive fundraising appeals and donor stewardship communications deployed through direct mail, email, telemarketing, and various channels. 
  • Utilize communications expertise to develop and deliver concise, compelling, audience-focused content that reflects the personality of the organization and leverages impact data, program and partner information, and donor and beneficiary stories. 
  • Support personalized and segmented communications strategies by collaborating with teams and stakeholders to align messaging with audience engagement goals and donor lifecycle strategies. 
  • Create content for assignments provided by the Marketing Project Manager and senior leadership by working closely with stakeholders across Federation departments to gather information, understand deliverable requirements, and develop clear, audience-focused messaging. 
  • Leverage Federation's existing approved content, messaging points, and impact statements to maintain accuracy, align with organizational priorities, and accelerate production while adapting and refreshing language and tone as needed to keep communications fresh and audience focused. 
  • Ensure consistent use of Federation branding and visual identity standards across all marketing and communications materials. 
  • Use approved AI tools to support project management and workflow efficiency while ensuring accuracy, ethical use, brand consistency, and compliance with organizational standards. 
  • Adhere to established marketing and creative services standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, quality control, timely execution, appropriate approvals, and effective project management across all communications, campaigns, and deliverables.  
  • Support the organization's digital-first marketing strategy by prioritizing audience-centric digital engagement, integrated multimedia storytelling, platform optimization, automation, analytics, and innovative approaches that strengthen brand visibility, donor engagement, and mission impact across digital channels. 
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and performance excellence by meeting deadlines, proactively communicating project status, embracing feedback, and supporting data-informed decision-making and measurable outcomes.  
  • Work closely with the CEO, EVP and other senior managers to produce custom communications for C-suite executives as needed. 
  • Adapt messaging across multiple platforms, including print, online and video, as well as advertising copy, email blasts, marketing collateral and social media platforms. 
  • Interpret project request documents to understand requirements and collaborate with designers, project coordinators & other professionals on marketing, development and events projects. 
  • Support a commitment to customer service, helping to uphold reputation of Marketing department as a problem solver, strategic thinker, and collaborative partner. 
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and performance excellence by meeting deadlines, proactively communicating project status, embracing feedback, and supporting data-informed decision-making and measurable outcomes.  
  • Aid in the monitoring and analysis of the success and effectiveness of marketing projects.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Qualifications and Success Factors

  • Minimum of 5-7 years writing sales/marketing copy for an advertising agency, non-profit or in a corporate setting. 
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills; editing and proofreading a must. 
  • Ability to blend technical writing skills with a familial, conversational tone, voice, and personality and to adapt writing style to target audience. 
  • Ability to thrive in a highly matrixed, fast-paced, team-oriented work environment while capable of balancing independent initiative with collaborative teamwork. 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and operate effectively in a culture of rapid change and tight deadlines. 
  • Demonstrate ability to think strategically, solve problems, use sound judgement, and make decisions and recommendations. 
  • Strong organizational skills required. 
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with project management tools. 
  • Strong knowledge of AP writing-style. 
  • Functional level of computer knowledge to comfortably adapt to organization's database, business automation software tools, website content management system and email deployment platform.

  • Ability to infuse Jewish culture, values, traditions, and history, particularly relating to Israel, into his/her work.
