Job description

Job Description
The Data Analyst 3 will be a senior member of the Supply Chain Intelligence (SCI) team, owning the delivery of data and insights for Nordstrom's Distribution Center and warehouse operations. The Data Analyst 3 will provide ongoing data support, performance analysis, and storytelling, which will lead to value creation and enable the next cycle of growth within Nordstrom - supporting reliable, accurate reporting and data pipeline integrity across inbound, outbound, inventory, and labor operations to help DCs run efficiently and serve customers and stores across the Nordstrom businesses.
A day in the life...
  • Operate as an insight partner to Distribution Center and Supply Chain leadership, not just a data provider - translating reliable, well-governed data into diagnosis, root cause, and recommended action
  • Own "the truth" and governance in data and process including the intake, management, automation, and integrity of data sourced from warehouse management systems and downstream data pipelines, so reporting rests on stable, validated data rather than repeated ad hoc extraction from source systems
  • Champion the data needs and priorities of the SCI team, coordinating with key data/business partners across the Nordstrom organization including DC Operations, Nordstrom Technology, Finance, and Supply Chain leadership
  • Lead and support data design requirements and delivery for SCI reporting programs and initiatives, including an ongoing legacy-to-modern BI platform migration and a broader shift toward more centralized, self-service analytics
  • Partner with data engineering to help ensure upstream data is accurate and well-defined, so downstream reporting can rely on consistent logic instead of every analyst re-deriving it independently
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and compliance; monitor and help troubleshoot data pipeline issues, escalating and resolving in partnership with engineering
  • Shift time from data validation toward analysis: use a more reliable data foundation to prioritize hypothesis testing, trend diagnosis, and forward-looking recommendations over one-off data pulls
  • Support DC and Supply Chain business partners in the development of modernized reporting and effective analysis, creating compelling narratives and storytelling through data
  • Support the analysis and diagnosis of end-to-end DC and warehouse performance and provide actionable guidance to improve results
  • Identify and develop new measures and KPIs that support the continuous improvement and optimization of Nordstrom's supply chain
  • Collaborate with supply chain and operations teams to identify signals and visibility needed to enhance operations and controls; build reporting to support control monitoring
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools such as Claude Code and Claude Desktop to accelerate exploratory analysis and SCI reporting workflows, further shifting analyst time from manual data wrangling to insight generation

You own this if you have...
  • Degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required (Masters preferred)
  • 5+ years of data management and data analysis; demonstrated ability to technically mentor and support the development of junior analysts
  • Demonstrated ability to move beyond descriptive reporting to diagnostic and prescriptive analysis - identifying root cause and recommending action, not just surfacing metrics
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes, data management principles, and data pipeline development using Apache Airflow, Dataflow
  • Strong understanding of normalized and de-normalized data, data warehousing, query construction, and dimensional data modeling, with applied skills in SQL and hands-on experience with BigQuery
  • Experience extracting and manipulating large datasets from relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL)
  • Proficiency in data querying and visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, IBM Cognos)
  • Advanced knowledge of version control tools (gitlab/github)
  • Experience with AI-assisted development and productivity tools (e.g., Claude Code, Claude Desktop) to accelerate analysis, automate data workflows, and Looker development preferred
  • Strong operational business understanding, including potential impact of business decisions on various internal/external stakeholders and systems
  • Supply chain expertise in retail or consumer goods preferred, with specific focus on warehouse operations, distribution, fulfillment, receiving, or inventory management, and understanding of industry dynamics
  • Comfortable presenting to business stakeholders and leadership
