Job description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meets all ISBE required licensure requirements
  • Reading or math background preferred
  • Experience with children preferred
  • Basic computer skills
  • Self-motivation with ability to follow prescribed program with limited direct supervision
  • Bilingual skills helpful


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to walk, stand, and bend for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds. 

 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Displays professionalism, including integrity and confidentiality
  • Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and activities throughout the day
  • Demonstrates cooperation, collaboration, openness for growth and willingness to contribute in a team approach
  • Responsible for assisting in the processing, circulation, cataloguing and maintenance of materials and equipment to assure smooth operation of the library.
  • Assists staff with obtaining instructional resources for students.
  • Performs circulation tasks including check-ins and outs, overdue book lists, reserve and new books, delivery of library materials and equipment, processing of library learning center materials, and assists in inventory.
  • Assists in organizing the vertical file, library office files, shelf reading and duplicating materials.
  • Assists in maintaining library equipment including repairs and cleaning; maintains A/V equipment; troubleshoots any problems with equipment in the classroom; assure accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies
  • Assists in managing data entry and operation of online circulation and catalog system.
  • Assists teachers and students with research using computers, textbooks and periodicals.
  • Trains and directs library learning center volunteers, as needed
  • Responsible for coordinating volunteers in all shelving of materials including all books, as needed
  • Maintains bulletin boards and displays, as needed
  • Assists in the direct supervision of children in the assigned program as directed by the teacher or administrator (e.g. bus loading, classroom assignments, lunch, recess, restroom, etc.)
  • Assist with non-instructional activities
  • Escort students from busses or cars at the start of classes and escorts students to appropriate busses or cars at the end of classes, when required
  • Attend and participate in assigned meetings and trainings, as directed
  • Attends team meetings and parent-teacher conferences, if requested or as appropriate
  • Perform other similar duties as directed by the teacher or the principal

 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • All student attendance days, Institute Days, and Work Days
  • 6 hours per day at elementary.  6.5 hours at junior high
  • Hourly rate to be established by the Board of Education ($18/hour)

 
EVALUATION:
The School Principal and/or immediate administrative supervisor will serve as the evaluator using the ESP evaluation tool
