Job description

JOB TITLE: Wind Tech

DEPARTMENT: Generation - Central Plains Wind Farm
LOCATION: Marienthal, KS 
PAY RANGE: 
Wind Tech I: $27.54 - $34.42
Wind Tech II: $32.01 - $40.00
Sr Wind Tech: $37.01 - $46.25

Note: Tech Level and pay will be determined according to candidates' education and experience

Scheduled Work Hours:  Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and on call rotation or as approved by manager/supervisor.  Job may require additional hours with short notice including evenings and weekends.

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Employees in this role will be performing maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and controller operation on Vestas V90 3MW wind turbines and associated equipment as well as conduct substation operations and inspections. Individuals must understand wind turbine mechanical, electrical, control, hydraulic, and SCADA systems. This position replaces mechanical and electrical components, understands schematics and uses appropriate diagnostic tools.  The successful candidate will interpret fault reports, maintain power generation reports, service logs in the computer database, and monitor turbine performance and SCADA systems.   

Duties include:
   Perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance on wind turbines and associated equipment.
   Climb wind turbine towers daily, wearing all required safety equipment, to inspect, maintain, repair or clean equipment.
   Understand electrical and mechanical functions of all components of a wind turbine generator and associated equipment.
   Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults; repair and/or replace components.
   Perform substation MV/HV switching, grounding.
   Perform scheduled and unscheduled substation inspections and minor substation repairs.
   Interpret and complete complex switching orders using three-part communication. Secure equipment with LOTO.
   Collect main and pad mount transformer oil samples and package for shipment. 
   Receive parts, stock shelves, conduct inventory.
   Document completed turbine work, parts usage, and employee time in the EAM software.
   Maintain company tooling, facilities and equipment and a clean safe work environment.
   Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements:
The preferred candidate will have an Associate Degree in Wind Energy Technology. Requires a High school diploma.   

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
   Skill in oral and written communications, including the ability to prepare clear, concise reports and presentations.  
   Problem solving, decision making and analytical skills.
   The ability to handle multiple priorities in a timely and accurate manner.
   Strong attention to detail.
   Basic computer operation skills, Microsoft Office Software, and EAM software.
   Experience using power tools, hydraulic torquing/tensioning equipment, and electrical meters and testing equipment (Megger, etc).

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, be able to obtain Skylotec rescue and self-rescue certification and substation operator certification.  

Working Conditions:
Must be able to work additional hours on short notice as needed and participate in On-Call rotation.  Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance. 
   Ability to read, comprehend and write in English.
   Ability to climb stairs and ladders 60-80 meters in height.
   Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs. in weight.
   Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.
   Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, turbine parts.
   Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 80 meters.
   Ability to successfully participate in all training courses, including high-angle rescue and training.
   Periodic walking.
   Ability to hear and use close range radios.
   Strong field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
   Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
   Comfort working remotely in a Turbine as part of a team with limited supervisory interaction.
   Ability to work in a respirator, including passing a respirator medical evaluation and fit test (required to be clean shaven) as some assignments may require respirator use.
