Job description

Senior Brewing Technician
Our Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is an extremely experienced brewer who can effectively troubleshoot issues on the floor and proactively find solutions with the team. They will thrive in a fast-paced environment and will be detail-oriented, with the ability to work as part of a team or independently on the Fort Point HenHouse brewing team. The ideal candidate will have a high level of urgency, dependability, and the ability to juggle multiple time sensitive brewing tasks at once.

On the Job you would be responsible for (including, but not limited to the following):
◼Senior Brewer Responsibilities (10% of Job Focus)
  • Pilot System operations, management of pilot fermentations and record keeping
  • Raw materials organization and inventory
  • Operator to Operator training of new staff
  • SOP development and maintenance
  • Support daily lab operations and assigned lab tasks
  • Support maintenance operations, parts inventory and execute assigned PMs

◼Wort Production Support (45% of Job Focus)
  • Milling and mashing operations
  • Vorlauf, lautering and sparging operations
  • Boiling, whirlpooling and Knockout operations
  • Sanitation and Maintenance of Brewhouse and associated equipment
  • Maintenance and use of Chemical titration kits, pH and PAA test strips, CBOX meter, DMA2 meter and pH meter.
  • Follow Policies outlined in the quality manual, GMP policy, MSS, and Hazard communication plan
  • Demonstrate specific knowledge and understanding of all brewery processes and operations (reactions taking place, purpose, frequency, desired outcome, critical control points, corrective action etc.) related to:
    • Ingredient handling and storage
    • Wort production
    • Fermentation management
    • Packaging operations

◼Cellar Operations Support (45% of Job Focus)
  • CIP on Tanks (FVs and BBTs)
  • Harvesting Yeast
  • Temperature and Pressure Management of Tanks
  • Centrifuge operations
  • Facility sanitation

◼Quality Assurance and Control Lab Support
  • Daily gravity and pH readings on fermenters
  • Preparing and evaluating Diacetyl Force Tests
  • Measuring ABV on crashed beer and calculating dilutions
  • Sensory evaluation of finished beer
  • Measuring ABV and pH of finished beer
  • Basic micro checks on finished beer
  • Running weekly calibration checks on quality equipment

◼General Production Support
  • Brewery equipment and facilities sanitation and cleaning
  • Brewing equipment maintenance
  • Production administration and data entry

Supervisory and/or Committee Responsibilities:

Computer Skills:
  • Must demonstrate excellent computer and smartphone skills
  • Experience working with computerized brewing equipment and programs or the ability to learn
  • Experience with Netsuite or the ability to learn
  • Must have working knowledge of Google Suite skills - google docs, meet and chat

Education and/or Experience:
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of production brewing experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Brewing Science or Food/Fermentation Science Required
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written) preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Valid CA Drivers License & Proof of Insurance Required
  • Other safety and job related courses, workshops and certifications may be assigned as part of the professional growth, development and performance requirements of this role.
