CredentialsDesign experience, portfolio, possibly fashion or textile certificationsPattern creation skills, knitting knowledge, technical proficiency
Work EnvironmentDesign studios, fashion houses, apparel companiesDesign studios, freelance, online platforms
Industry UsageFashion, apparel, home textilesPublishing, online pattern sales, independent designers

The main difference is that a Senior Knitting Designer oversees the creative process and develops innovative knitting designs within a company, while a Knitting Pattern Developer focuses on creating detailed, technical knitting patterns for publication or sale. Both roles require knitting expertise, but the Senior Knitting Designer typically has broader responsibilities in design direction and team collaboration.

How does a Senior Knitting Designer typically collaborate with technical teams to bring designs from concept to production?

As a Senior Knitting Designer, collaboration with technical teams—such as pattern makers, sample developers, and production managers—is essential to ensure that creative concepts are both aesthetically pleasing and manufacturable. Designers communicate specifications, provide detailed sketches, and often participate in prototype reviews to resolve technical challenges. Throughout the process, they must balance design vision with material constraints and manufacturing capabilities, requiring strong communication and problem-solving skills. This teamwork ensures that the final products meet both creative and quality standards while adhering to production timelines.

What are Senior Knitting Designers?

Senior Knitting Designers are experienced professionals who create and develop original knitting patterns, designs, and samples for apparel, accessories, and home goods. They lead and oversee the design process, from conceptualization to final production, often collaborating with other designers, technical teams, and manufacturers. Their responsibilities include trend research, material selection, pattern drafting, and ensuring the feasibility and quality of designs. Senior Knitting Designers also mentor junior staff and contribute to the creative direction of a brand or company.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Senior Knitting Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Senior Knitting Designer, you need advanced expertise in textile design, yarn selection, and pattern drafting, typically supported by a degree in fashion or textile design and several years of industry experience. Proficiency with design software like Adobe Illustrator, CAD systems for textile design, and technical knitting machines is crucial. Strong creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating with teams and bringing innovative concepts to life. These skills ensure the creation of high-quality, marketable knitwear collections and seamless coordination from concept through production.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for News & Hyperlocal CRM, balancing user experience innovation with revenue and retention goals.

  • Lead day-to-day execution across editorial campaigns including email, push, and in-product communications, managing the full pipeline from brief to QA to reporting.

  • Act as the product lead for cross-functional CRM squads, setting direction, driving accountability, and aligning long-term strategy with near-term execution.

Job description

Realtor.com reaches millions of home buyers and sellers each month. This role owns how we communicate with them - through news, hyperlocal insights, and personalized CRM - to turn casual visitors into lifelong users.

As the Sr. Product Manager, News & Hyperlocal CRM, you'll own the end-to-end strategy, roadmap, and execution for our News & Insights campaigns and hyperlocal communications across email, push, SMS, and in-product surfaces. You'll sit at the intersection of editorial content, consumer data, and marketing technology - a rare combination that directly drives engagement, retention, and revenue at scale.

This is a high-ownership IC role on a fast-moving team. You'll work closely with Editorial, Economics, Data Science, Machine Learning, MarTech Engineering, and CRM Operations to ship campaigns and features that matter to consumers and move the business.

Why This Role:

Most CRM PM roles are execution-focused. This one isn't. You'll shape the strategy for how Realtor.com uses news and hyperlocal data to build relevance with millions of users - deciding what we say, to whom, when, and through which channel. The personalization infrastructure, the data architecture, the editorial calendar, the A/B testing roadmap - it all runs through you.

What You'll Do:

Strategy & Roadmap

  • Own the product strategy and roadmap for News & Hyperlocal CRM, balancing user experience innovation with revenue and retention goals
  • Define and prioritize experiments, campaigns, and features that drive measurable gains in engagement, LTV, and lead conversion
  • Use competitive intelligence, market trends, and consumer data to identify differentiation opportunities

Execution & Delivery

  • Lead day-to-day execution across editorial campaigns (email, push, in-product), managing the full pipeline from brief to QA to reporting
  • Partner with MarTech Engineering and Marketing Dev Ops on data pipeline requirements and capacity planning
  • Write clear PRDs and briefs; get cross-functional buy-in and drive to launch

Data & Analytics

  • Develop deep fluency in the consumer data and signals that power CRM journeys - available fields, APIs, segmentation logic, and data architecture
  • Design and interpret A/B tests; translate results into clear recommendations and presentation-ready summaries for senior stakeholders
  • Establish and track KPIs including revenue, engagement, retention, and lead conversion

Cross-functional Leadership

  • Act as the product lead for cross-functional CRM squads - setting direction, driving accountability, and keeping long-term strategy and near-term execution in sync
  • Serve as the strategic voice of this business line with senior leaders, presenting roadmap direction, business impact, and performance with confidence

How We Work:

We balance creativity and innovation on a foundation of in-person collaboration. For most roles, our employees work three or more days in our offices, where they have the opportunity to collaborate in-person, adding richness to our culture and knitting us closer together.

What You'll Bring:

  • 5+ years of product management and/or CRM marketing experience, ideally in a consumer tech or media environment
  • Hands-on experience with email, push notifications, and in-product surfaces (web and app)
  • Experience owning or closely partnering on editorial newsletter programs
  • Omnichannel CRM strategy experience - you've used segmentation and behavioral data to drive business outcomes across multiple channels
  • Proven track record designing and interpreting A/B tests on CRM campaigns, and turning results into actionable roadmap decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to present roadmaps and campaign performance to VP and C-suite stakeholders clearly and credibly
  • Fluency with CRM and MarTech tooling; hands-on experience with Braze or Cordial is a strong plus
  • Comfort navigating complex cross-functional environments with engineering, data science, and editorial dependencies
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; technical or analytics background a plus
