Advantage Tech is searching for a Sr. InfrastructureEngineer to join their client's team in Downtown Kansas City, Mo.

We are looking for an InfrastructureEngineer with strong networking expertise and solid infrastructure experience to join our IT team supporting mission-critical systems in an on-premises SQL Server environment.

Position SummaryThe Network Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and supporting the client?s enterprise network and IT infrastructure. This role is split approximately 50% network engineering and 50% infrastructure systems administration, providing balanced responsibilities across switches, firewalls, servers, storage, and virtualization platforms.
The ideal candidate will combine strong hands-on networking skills with experience in server management, virtualization, and system reliability. This position plays a key role in ensuring the availability, security, and performance of the client?s networked systems across multiple manufacturing sites.Key ResponsibilitiesNetwork Engineering (50%)
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, high-performance network infrastructure across multiple sites (LAN/WAN, VPN, VLAN, and wireless).
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain switches, routers, and firewalls (Fortinet, Cisco, or similar).
  • Manage core network services including DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing.
  • Monitor network health and performance, resolving bottlenecks and connectivity issues.
  • Implement and enforce network segmentation, access control, and security best practices.
  • Partner with vendors and ISPs to maintain optimal uptime and connectivity.
Infrastructure & Systems Administration (50%)
  • Administer Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Support and maintain on-premises SQL Server instances, focusing on performance tuning, backup integrity, and security.
  • Manage and monitor physical and virtual servers (VMware or Hyper-V).
  • Perform server patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management to ensure reliability and compliance.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for complex infrastructure and network incidents.
Security & Compliance
  • Maintain firewall rules, endpoint protection, and network access controls.
  • Assist with security audits, vulnerability management, and patch compliance.
  • Support the client?s cybersecurity policies and IT governance standards.
Documentation & Collaboration
  • Maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration documentation, and asset inventories.
  • Work collaboratively with IT support, applications, and security teams to ensure system integration and performance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of IT processes and infrastructure reliability.
QualificationsRequired:
  • Bachelor?s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and firewall management.
  • Experience with Windows Server administration and Active Directory.
  • Hands-on experience managing SQL Server environments.
  • Familiarity with VMware or Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred:
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Security+, or MCSE.
  • Experience with Fortinet, Cisco, or Palo Alto firewalls and switches.
  • Exposure to monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, or similar).
  • Understanding of disaster recovery, backup technologies, and data protection strategies.
