Description:

The Senior Graphic Designer at Abundant Life creates and leads other designers in producing engaging, imaginative, and innovative graphics that support Abundant Life's mission "to see lives changed by Jesus." This position operates under the direction of the Creative Director and plays a crucial role in establishing, upholding, and enhancing Abundant Life's Visual Communication efforts. To excel in this role, it is essential to accept the personal accountability of being "living proof of a loving God to a watching world" and to effectively perform the essential functions and responsibilities of an Abundant Life Senior Graphic Designer.


Personal Accountability

  • Be committed to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18; 1 Peter 2:2) by assembling for instruction in God’s Word and engaging in the personal study of God’s Word.
  • Responsibly use the resources at your disposal to foster the mission and vision of Abundant Life (1 Peter 5:1-4).
  • Participate in an Abundant Life group (Acts 2:41-42) as well as the discipleship ministry (Matthew 28:18-20).

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Production Design

Design and optimize visual elements for projects, with attention to detail and adherence to established brand style guidelines.

  • Recognize design direction and work creatively within established style boundaries.
  • Accurately prepare files & resources for production (print, digital).
  • Produce optimized files of the highest possible quality at the smallest possible size.
  • Have an eye for detail; troubleshoot, find and correct mistakes quickly.
  • Work with vendors to establish production standards and instruct production designers in best practices.

Graphic Design

Creatively execute visual concepts using imagery, typography, and layout, while considering communication objectives and practicality in design choices.

  • Efficiently develop innovative design mockups with a refined touch based on approved creative direction.
  • Manipulate type and imagery to effectively communicate key messages.
  • Choose the appropriate design vehicle (digital or print) and create solutions tailored to meet communication objectives.
  • Creatively collaborate with other Communications Team members in areas of video, copywriting, etc.

Senior Graphic Designer

Develop concepts, manage the creative process, and guard the brand by overseeing and guiding the visual elements of a project, ensuring that they align with the intended artistic direction, maintain creative excellence, and preserve the brand's identity.

  • Develop concepts and provide design direction in collaboration with ministries.
  • Lead creatives by delegating tasks, offering feedback, and maintaining quality standards for successful execution of projects.
  • Ensure designs adhere to brand guidelines, maintaining a unified and cohesive visual style across projects and platforms.

Project Management/Leadership

Skillful management of projects, timelines, and resources with a commitment to effective communication.

  • Engage with co-workers by initiating, attending, and actively contributing to meetings and reviews.
  • Create and follow processes that enable workflow efficiency.
  • Complete multiple projects in a deadline-heavy environment, prioritizing projects based on importance and difficulty.
  • Help develop and adhere to naming conventions and team document organization best practices.
  • Correctly archive projects once completed.
  • Manage timelines of internal and external resources.
  • Gracefully give, receive and implement creative direction and feedback.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Able to articulate and demonstrate graphic design principles (balance, closure, color, contrast, emphasis, proportion, proximity, unity, movement, pattern, hierarchy, space, etc.)
  • Proven design expertise showcased in a design portfolio.
  • Ability to think critically and problem solve toward effective design solutions.
  • Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Familiarity with ClickUp or similar project management systems is preferred. Experience with Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, Word or Pages, Excel or Numbers, and AI tools is a plus.
  • A passion for helping the church communicate effectively.
  • A commitment to grow and develop professional skills and knowledge as a designer.

Experience (minimum requirements)

  • A BFA degree in Graphic Design or a portfolio showcasing professional graphic design work at a level equivalent to that of a degree (to be included with the application).
  • 3-5 years of experience in Graphic Design.
